handyman 1 #1 Posted April 11, 2009 I am going to look a 416 tomorrow that the seller states has an engine problem. He was told that there is a mechanism that allows the compression to be released when the engine cranks and then closes when fired. Apparently this is bad and needs replaced. I am not knowledgeable at all about this stuff. Is it something that can be fixed externally or an internal problem. Thanks.
zieg72 209 #2 Posted April 11, 2009 Never heard of such a item. Onan's suck valve seats and loose compression, almost always on the oil filter side and usually a costly fix. It is an internal problem.
Rollerman 290 #3 Posted April 11, 2009 Zieg not all 416's used Onans. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=9185 Handyman the Kohlers used a compression release that was tied into the Cam. Below a certain RPM it holds the exhaust valve up a little. To fix or replace the automatic compression release "ACR" you'd have to tear the engine down to access the cam itself.
