Pullstart 59,547 #26 Posted September 14, 2018 @Daddy Don checked out the truck for me, and I’m excited to say that he told me I’m getting one heck of a deal! We are flying out tonight and plan to pick up the truck tomorrow morning. It’s the right color to be a fine Horse Hauler! I can’t thank Don enough for his willingness to drive across town and check it out for me, and for @Professor1990‘s offer to drive some 3 hours each way, if he weren’t already out of town! We’ll drive Saturday and hope to make it to or near St. Louis, MO as a good halfway point, then get home Sunday afternoon. Woo Hoo!

Trust me a 3 hour drive can be just a school bus ride every day. Have a safe trip. 1
Pullstart 59,547 #28 Posted September 15, 2018 We just landed, now to taxi for a bit, then find our rental car. We hope to check out the truck tonight yet!
Pullstart 59,547 #29 Posted September 15, 2018 Might take some @stevebo special wet sanding, there’s some real fine spray paint touch ups... but it runs and drives the way it should and it’s ours now!

There are brackets for a turnover ball gooseneck under the bed, I intend to pull up the drop in bed liner to see what’s left of it, I have a complete b&w system for an F series super duty and could easily go back to hauling gooseneck! I don’t have either kind of bed mounted trailer at the moment though...
WHX?? 46,690 #34 Posted September 17, 2018 Good idea on pulling the plastic (?) liner. You know those are an invitation to rust which shouldn't be worst on an Okie truck. Get it on our salt covered roads tho.
Pullstart 59,547 #35 Posted September 17, 2018 This will be a summer only hauler... be inside during snow months!
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,034 #36 Posted September 17, 2018 Looks good but I am 99% sure the gray paint below the door moldings is not oem which leads me to believe they did some bodywork I. The usual rusty places. I would ask that question. Either way still a really nice truck. You will love that power plant

You will love that power plant All the sheet metal is original on this beast, it is just cheap bed liner that they sprayed on and it faded. I’ll get it up on the lift and snap some pictures, the factory frame paint is still intact, as are the inner and outer rockers, etc. it’s really quite clean. Just has some funny touch up spots with little to no prep work, just spray.

My brother has a neighbor who pulls a 32 ft tag along RV. A couple of years ago he traded his single cab short bed F250 for a 4 door long bed F250, needed room for the grand kids who started go camping with them. Now when he goes to back the RV down his long 200 ft drive way, my brother along with some of the other neighbors grab their lawn chairs and a six pack. Better than watching Da Bears play .
Pullstart 59,547 #39 Posted September 17, 2018 I do agree that 5th wheel would enhance my towing pleasure tenfold, but we have a brand new 37’ bumper pull to tote around. We have a load bar hitch, and I’ve got an add a leaf set for the rear and new shocks to stick on. Our ‘11 Suburban handles the trailer just fine with the load bars, transmission just doesn’t like the load for more than 8 or 9 miles! With what I have here, I’m sure things will go good and smooth...

I didn’t see any rust, has had injectors, new heads,, head studs clutch, and batteries all in the last 2 years. Only power adders are an edge tuner, which I will likely use for egt readings more than anything. It might end up at the big show next year, we’ll see! Daddy Don 887 #42 Posted September 18, 2018 Looks like you are already getting ready for winter. Wife looks good behind the wheel. You may not get to drive it. She will tell you to get on your and leave the truck to her. Glad you like it and it will work out for you.

Pullstart 59,547 #46 Posted September 25, 2018 Been workin’ “Norman” a bit more lately. My father in-law lent me his dump trailer and I’ve been scouring CL any free moment I have to find more wood. Oh how I wish I had a woodlot, but I’m thankful for the people who don’t just chip up their fallen! This truck hauls the full trailer and full bed just beautifully. 2

Right there's why I got the '79 C30 to haul wood for my elderly parents, (mulch gravel lumber ect) and it doesn't matter how hard I beat on it. The pic from CL that got me interested.
Pullstart 59,547 #48 Posted September 28, 2018 First upgrade is done, replaced the old headlight lenses and got new LED bulbs. The high beams are wrong, so those are still halogen until I get the correct ones.

Pullstart 59,547 #50 Posted October 1, 2018 Adding some extra leaf springs to the rear and looking into some hack job wiring today. As far as I’m concerned, those quick splice connectors are only meant for one thing... the trash can. They’re are a corrosion supporting mistake.
