Am new to this site/forum please give me a pass for being somewhat ignorant!

Dad died and left a WH 700 w/8 hp Tecumseh engine, mowing deck and 49 year old tires. Am repainting it  and find 2 (two) holes in the hood forward of the latch, (approx. 14 1/4"). Any ideas what they could be for? Perhaps a bracket for headlights mounted outboard of the side of the hood?

Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Also have holes in the rear fender/seat pan (dead center) where a reflector/taillight might go. Think these might be owner installed accessories. Could the aforementioned holes be factory installed lighting? TewxasBill

Is there any extra loose wires near these holes? That might be something to look for.  Maybe somebody else might have an explanation better than myself. .

The holes in the rear were most likely for a rear light or reflector and might be factory. The holes in the hood are not factory.

The holes in the hood could have been for the radio or fogger accessories.  These required holes drilled in the surface of the hood. Placement front to back on the hood may vary a little depending on who drilled the holes.

Examples from Le Sueur Pioneer Power this past weekend.

No. No loose wires and no unaccounted for switches. Am puzzled as to what the hood holes might have held. Where would a guy find out about available factory accessories for that era lawn tractor (1969). The Tecumseh engine has electric start, but would the generator on the engine be reliable enough to have powered lights? Did the factory have light kits that could be buyer installed after sale? Thanks TexasBill

Always glad to hear of a :wh: staying in the family. Hard to say how many non-factory alterations were made in nearly five decades.

The fogger doesn't use wires or switches, it's just a tank with a twist valve like the fuel shutoff.

For sure some pictures would be great. The Teccy will run lights but the only headlight that mounted to the hood was the HL-6 that went in place of the hood ornament. Other models would have had them mounted up front at the top of the grille.

These are the holes in the hood and seat/fender pan that I've been wondering about. The hood holes appear to be pretty far back from the front of the tractor and if headlights were mounted somehow they would be virtually useless. The holes in the seat/fender portion must have been at one time for a reflector or tail light. Dad wasn't the first owner of this tractor an maybe the third or forth. So, no telling what or whom mounted what accessories and what they were. Have a source (Redo My Horse) for the proper decals, but does anyone know of another source for decals? Thanks TexasBill
