1973 automatic 16 hp mower deck issue

Recommended Posts

Wes Welbaum

Purchased tractor with 42 inch mower deck as is.  Attached deck for the first time and mowed for about a half hour.  Then noticed blades slowing down. Belts tension fine.  If I disengage then reengage belt tension blade speed fine for a few minutes. Then the blades would only turn slowly.  Any help would be appreciated. sheaves do not seem to be over heating - under deck is not clogged.

probably you PTO is slipping.    Watch the cone end of the PTO (light Blue) does it slow down with the blades???  If so try removing the hare pin  (yellow)  from the linkage and turn the trunion (Blue) in a whole turn.  see if that helps.  Put a dot of white paint on the PTO cone make it easier to see if it is slowing down.

Excellent instructions! Like the front mounted deck too!  :handgestures-thumbupright:
