Many older small engines do not have a recoil starter so one has to wrap a rope or strap around a starter cup on the flywheel clockwise and pull to turn the engine for starting. The flywheel turns clockwise when facing it so the pto end of the crankshaft turns counter clockwise when facing it. Does that answer your question?
