Points push rod

Do points push rods wear out? I bought a new one thinking that might be why my points didn't seem to be opening, but the new one is about a quarter inch longer and that seems too long. This is for a k181

I've never seen one wear out but that's not saying they can't. A quarter inch? Not gonna happen. Did this tractor even run for you with the old rod? :)

The correct points gap is about 0.020 which is about 1/50 of an inch. If the points push rod were to wear that much it would no longer make contact with the points so there would be no further resistance and it wouldn't be able to wear further.

Better check with your parts supplier to be sure they provided you with the correct part number.
