Sheesh! At the pace you two are going I see no reason you can’t have it back together and driving in time for the Saturday tractor parade at the WH Show in PA!! This year!!

:handgestures-thumbupright:

Well Sparky, my honey and I have talked it over and we think this Saturday might be pushing it just a tiny bit. A little.

But in all seriousness, we are actually aiming to get this tractor ready for July 21st for the Owls Head transportation truck and tractor show.

Barring unforeseen circumstances and stupidity we should be able to do that.

Tonight's performance is a repeat of the past several nights. Clean. Wire brush. Prime. Paint. You know. Super extreme exciting stuff like that.

Degreasing and depainting and washing was the agenda for the day.

Also some priming and painting.

More red stuff!!

I soaked the transmission gears in Zep purple and washed them all up.

Left them setting in oil til I get to putting together the transmission....

Here's the other half of the transmission.

And the seat and gas tank with a fresh coat of almond.

We're nearly done with "old paint removal" procedure.

I don't know. I can't decide. Do you think I need a wheel bearing?

So first things first, I'd like to give a big thank you to @stevasaurus for making his transmission video a few years back.

My honey and I both get a lot of satisfaction and enjoyment about being able to fix our own stuff. Everything. Tractor. House. Cars.

Read a bit online. Watch a video or two. Get to work.

Steve's video made it possible for me to have a better understanding of what I was up against to get into this transmission and, I hope, get it mostly buttoned back up.

Here's a few other things that were done tonight.

IMG_20180625_192317857.jpg.5b4939d156168f70646039114a0466fe.jpg

This is in Trina's words her Wheelhorse "Mobile".

IMG_20180625_192328316.jpg.b9e15c7df78faec77aedf69504845a8a.jpg

And here's a couple of pictures with piles and piles of red Parts waiting to be thrown together.

The weather forecast for this weekend is supposed to be smoking hot. At least for Maine. At or above 90° for 2 or 3 days in a row. Nice cool cellar workshop is a good place to begin assembly of this tractor.

I cleaned out the exhaust port threads and Trina changed a few more things from white to red.

Then she disassembled the steering tower which was the last thing to come apart for repainting.

In the pic you'll see a can of B'laster small engine tune up.

I was told in another thread to use it to break up the carbon in the engine.

Go.

Buy.

Some.

It worked great!!

By the case... Yeah pretty much...

Except for the carburetor And the cylinder head there is not one single solitary piece or nut or bolt or washer that is not being wire brushed down to metal and stripped and painted.

She is going to have somewhere around six or 8 cans of primer and six or seven cans of red paint and 2 or three cans of almond paint.

Beautiful area up there. Midstate Lakes Region. We've been for a walk around the Mount Pisgah area.

Love the basement “chop shop” photos!  Reminds me of my dad’s basement during the resto projects that we have done over the years. It’s good to prepare all the parts for asssembly,  make sure you have what you need for fasteners,  then the assembly begins—my personal favorite part!

Keep on—it’s looking Great:greetings-clappingyellow:

Ohh yeah....

Little to no view without climbing the tower. Yeh  gotta do it!

Been over a heck of a lot of mountains in the last 4 or 5 years and those fire Towers don't really bug me all that much.

Yesterday was more painting...

The exhaust is silver high temp paint.

I got three out of four tires off the rims tonight.

New rear Carlisle ags showed up yesterday.

We've decided to order new fronts as well..... Maybe some tri ribs.

Trina spent a few minutes straightening out the cylinder head.

What size did you guys choose on those Carlisle AG’s??  I’m looking forward to seeing that tire combo in place...:coffee:

Which paint did you use for your exhaust?

She went with the stock size all around so 6-12 rears and she's ordering 4.00/8 tri ribs this morning for the front.

Going for the "tiny farm tracta" look. And also practicality of good traction and easy accurate steering in dirt.

I'll most likely fluid fill all four at some point.

The paint is:

IMG_20180629_043003473.jpg.41bb284129a380402efb3736a1e32734.jpg

We were a bit surprised by the finish on the supposedly "NOS" muffler.

Trina's been cleaning everything with acetone prior to painting and when she tried to wipe off the muffler which was quite old.... The "old" paint came right off and revealed some surface rust.

Scotchbrite pad made short work of that.

Should be good now.

My wife decided she wants an auto so the 417-A I guess will become hers. We’ll see how much interest she’ll take in it. Doubtful it will be as much as your wife. Of course, thats if she don’t take the 953 I hope to be getting. She was eyeing those at the show.

Those 417’s are nice machines!  Hydros certainly are user friendly to operate and who can deny that red tractors are really cool?  Can’t wait to see/hear how that all come together for you Richie!  You’ll have to start a thread when that decision is made and link me to it.

Eric—i’ll Be interested in seeing how that high heat paint holds up.  I’ve never used that particular product.  However, I have used several that don’t work well at all.  They heat up and start bubbling or falling off within the first few hours of use.  I recently (last year) painted three mufflers with this product...

image.jpg.6bab9db8cf31f1b764ce07f7c458aca8.jpg

Following their directions for break in and curing fastidiously and so far it has worked the best of anything that I’ve tried.  GhostRider probably has about four hours of run time and so far has held up amazingly...

keep us posted as you get seat time with the paint that you used...

Maybe your wife will end up with... Two... That are... You know... Hers.

@PeacemakerJack, I've never tried this high heat paint either. The only other one I tried was engine paint and that was years ago and that didn't work very well at all.

Trina sprayed about 6 half coats, really light coats, on this Muffler so we'll see how it holds up.

Thanks to another very generous Redsquare member... Trina's tractor now has a "new" pair of axles.

So Tonight I changed out the axles in the differential and assembled the transmission.

My show tractors for October Festivals.
RJ59, 1045, 657 w/sickle bar, 10HP and D200. Just love the attention and hearing the stories of grandpa or growing up had one. Always can see the joy these Horses bring to the spectators. Than telling them the WH history story along with Speedex story always intrigues them.
Than of course there is always someone that needs to get one out of the way.
Last year it was the 1045 and the PO was so excited to learn I got her running and been mowing my grass all summer. Of course I had to let him drive her around.
      This year it’s a 702 I think I getting this week.
So many were engrossed by the Sickle Bar never knowing such was available on garden tractors.

If you read the restoration thread you'll see that one of my recent posts involves me snapping off the end of the crankshaft during an attempted repair.
You'll also see about a Briggs & Stratton engine  I'm going to use.

What I'm looking for in this thread is if anyone has ever put an older style Briggs & Stratton in place of a Tecumseh or even a Kohler....

What are the things I need to watch for?

I'm accustomed to using Non detergent oil in all older small engines.
Thanks to @pfrederi I have the manual for the Tecumseh and it says to use detergent oil BUT it is printed in 1998... Over 30 years after DOM on my engine.

      What do you folks use??

      I've ordered this set

      https://www.redoyourhorse.com/tecumseh-4-pc-engine-decal-set/

from our awesome vendor Terry @Vinylguy.

I know where the balloon sticker goes and the oil sticker.

Where does the large "Solid State" one belong??

      Thanks!!
