Raider 12 not charging or bad batt?

I just bought a Raider 12 and i went out today to start it and the battery was dead. I then charged it and mowed the grass and after letting it cool down for about 15 minutes i went to start it and the battery was almost dead again. I was able to start it and i grabbed my volt meter to check the voltage to see if it is charging and it just jumped all over the place in DC mode..do i need to test it in AC mode?

DC is correct for checking a battery. The first thing you should do is have the battery load tested at your favorite auto parts store. Next clean and tighten ALL electrical connections including grounds. This will cure most electrical problems, don't waste money replacing parts until this has been done.

A digital voltmeter will jump all over . They are almost too sensitive. Tractor Supply sells a cheap analog meter that will work. I have used Fluke , Fieldpiece and Craftsman digital meters and almost every time they will be erratic with the engine running.
