Ok. The warning light cluster.. It goes one way.

Flip yours if it’s not correct.

Presentable I’ll take it out tomorrow and get it dirty.

I’ll give it a few weeks to decide if I keep the 520-8 with the electric lift or the 418-8 with the electric lift.

Looks nice.

Might as well keep both.

I'm wondering... since the 520-8 is in such remarkable condition, (Great job)

What does the 418 look like? Is that your next project?

The 418-8 is in great shape. It has faded decals and a nicks and dings but it’s been old realiable.

I just got carried away with the 520-8. I took the engine out to decarb and one thing lead to another. I never planned on doing it it just happened.

Had a 42 inch deck lying around and I put that on and did some cutting and got her a little dirty.

The electric lift sure is nice. Onan’s do sound beefy.

Kinda a toss up for me at this point as to which one I’ll keep. I swept axle and the beefy spindles, the steering is new so it handles like a dream. However, the old 418-8 has proven itself time after time. The m18 is a great engine however, then valves aren’t adjustable.

We shall see...

If you can find a 48 or 60" deck for her the grass on the engine will not be as bad and your cut time will go down.

I’ve got a 48 and 60. It’s was just easier to put on a 42.

i only use it to cut a drainage ditch. The 61 inch ztr is what I use to cut the yard.

Kinda a waste of such a nice tractor to cut a drainage ditch once a week.

Gorgeous. I hope to be able to do that to mine, maybe next year.

How much would a nice rare beast like that fetch do you think?

ALso, do rear discharge decks create less grass on the 520 intake? It seems to be a thing....

The rear discharge decks blow grass up into the transaxle area so either way I use my compressed air to blow my machines off after each use. I’ve been doing that since I was 12 when I cut with a “Locke” reel mower, which I still have.

As for how much it will “fetch” I’m not sure. I’ve never seen one with the electric lift option.

My last one with the top end of the engine done, more hours, and manual lift sold for 2000.00 so you pose a good question.

For now, unless I get an offer I can’t turn down, I will most likely keep both. I’ve got some room in the shed, stablizer in the tank, trickle charger on the battery and a sheet over top.

I think you should keep both if it works for YOU.

Personally, I would love to have your dilemma! Great job on the 520-8

 "Onan’s do sound beefy. "

That is why I like them. Higher torque at low RPM is another.

ITs funny, my 416-8 has a much deeper and quieter sound than my 520H, even though there isn't a lot of difference in the engine or muffler. It also is idling higher at low RPMs. Does anyone else have the same?

Is the engine in the 416-8 the single cylinder Kohler and if so what year. They did use different mufflers over the years. My 1975 C-160 single cylinder Kohler does sound good.

The Kohler k341 was utilized on the 416 until replaced by the Onan p216.

in my opinion you lucked out and got the better engine.

I have seen variations in the k341 mufflers utilized in various wheel horse applications.

This is the next project. Rebuilt the engine several years ago.

@richmondred01,

That's funny you posted that Cub. I just went to look at a 16k Miles 2013 Ford Edge with my buddy and we asked owner about his really nice mid 70's Cub 123 but it wasn't for sale.

Looks like this model 73 but with bigger rear tires and has fenders.

My brother and I have a lot of hours on that old cub 123.

The 123 was a hydro unit with a 12 hp.

Beautiful weather, mowed, power washed, played with the '90 520-8. Like the sound of the Onan.

Guess, I'm losing it.

My 1st use of the rarely used 48" SD deck. First ride on this Stallion in over a year. Was sitting dormant in the back of the barn, "Get up Horsey. Play time!"  :icecream:

I use the 520-8 to push 12 inches of snow on several driveways over the last 24 hours.

I was very pleased with the operation of the tractor. The electric lift functioned flawlessly.

The 8 speed with the electric lift is certainly superior then the 520h’s that I’ve utilized in the past for plowing snow.

I think for now I’ll be keeping the 520-8 and disposing of the 418-8.
