Rm 367 deck rebuild

Recommended Posts

Chris1055

Hi guys. So I was looking in my area for a beat around deck for my rental property. I figured if I could get a couple seasons out of it great. I ended up pick up a rm 367 deck. Perfect for my 855. It was in really nice shape except for the missing bearings out of the drive pulley and a hole in the front of the deck which is common. But other than that really solid. And of course my wheels start spinning and I figure that I’m if I get this mechanically sound and a little elbow grease these machines last forever. This is my progress so far. I wasn’t sure whether to put this in this thread or in restorations. I would like to give a shout out to wheel horse parts and more for the bearings and the spacer they made for me. I just need to get the seals for the bottom of the spindle shafts

Looks like you had a lot to work with from the beginning Chris. Seems like every deck I have gotten the spindles are shot as well as the cross shaft.

Yes I think I was very fortunate. With this deck. I have a couple of sets of new spindles for these decks. That someone used to make and sell at the wheel horse show in PA. I don’t know if they still do. But the pitting is so minimal on these I don’t see it affecting anything.

Thanks for posting this. I think often many around here get caught up in tractor restoration, when sometimes the utility upkeep of old attachments can be just as interesting to see.  Nice work so far, keep it coming!

So I used regal red. I have two gallons of ih red in the garage but didn’t feel like bringing the sprayer out. What is a close color for rattle can. This came out a little bit orange but it’s darkening. It’s going on a work tractor anyway. It is structurally sound. If I ever want it on a resto. I can always change the paint. Underneath I put seem sealer like under cars. It’s not the prettiest but keeps moisture out. I couldn’t find the exact gauge and don’t want to cut up any other decks.

Could of used a little more skim coat but. I’m really not trying to make this perfect. I’m going more overboard than I wanted.

Ha thanks I just stood there and thought the same thing. That’s what happens with all my projects but I end up using them. I love working with these tractors. And I think they like working more than sitting pretty!!

Update. So I got the blades for a good price. If I went through my dealer I could of bought three sets lol. I’m almost done with the assembly. I just have to put the shafts and thrust bearings in. Also I have to tweak the back wheels somebody was riding it and made a big groove into the shaft. No big deal. I also ordered some decals from redo your horse. Back in the day I used to order my decals from a place called beginning with a m it was their last name. For the life of me can’t remember. But they used to be at the big show in pa. If anybody remembers I’d like to know.

Hey guys so I was awaiting the last of my. Bearings and finished assembly tonight with all but the back bracket for the wheels and a couple of carriage bolts that I was awaiting until everything went together. These are like a little puzzle but neat how everything falls into place once you figure it out. One question for you guys how much grease would you guys pack on the gears. It seems like they just spin a lot off. From what I can remember. So do you really have to pack these things or just keep them coated?? DDB1BCBB-3D12-4080-BB3A-F51B7B90999B.jpeg.e3b75e3d2f7bcc0c4617ab53aff25f4c.jpegD7C4AB0D-DA93-4179-8A69-650062EF1F92.jpeg.9a952b5374a941770e538b41d1a5a1f6.jpeg

I use mine weekly, I keep the gears greased I just run a light bead around it, I do pull the covers monthly just and wipe them down and regrease and then a shot in the fitting for the spindles.  I do take better care of these decks and stockpile as many parts as I can for them who knows how much longer we can find this stuff and I don't want a newer riding mower

to answer your question I keep my gears just coated, but I check it regularly to make sure nothing is stuck in there that could damage the gears
