A few basic tune up steps should get you fixed up. I would begin with a refreshing of the fuel system, gas line, fuel filter and carburetor cleaning. Be sure to use ethanol free gas.  Also a new Champion H-10 spark plug and points and condenser would be a good idea.

One thing we ask of all new members,      :wwp:

Rebuild the carburetor, replace the fuel lines and fuel filter.

Would starting fluid help?

Do not use starting fluid. The ether is so volatile that it could harm the engine. If you want to add anything to the gas I would suggest SeaFoam. Chances are it may help but nothing will replace doing the job right the first time.

And when you do get it running right, Kohler recommends a slow idle speed of 1100-1200 rpm. Anything slower and you will not be getting proper lubrication.

If it has not been kinked you may be able to put some PB Blaster or the penetrating oil of your choice in both ends and free it up. Otherwise you can find new replacement cables on ebay.

If it will idle but not throttle up at all, a possible cause is the condenser. It should be connected to the - side of the coil. If it is on the - side a replacement isn't very expensive.
