C161 right place at the right time

The Gman

Out for a drive with the misses and low and behold at the end of a lane way was a c161.

Home to get the trailer and 1hr later the herd has grown yet again. 50 bucks got me what wants to be a black hood. Maybe the dark night. Not run for 4 years. Tranny shifts good, tires are tubed so they hold air. Deck is good. Blower is........... well we will see.

Motor has 90 psi in the forward and 15 in the rear. It has spark. The fibre glass pan and hood are in decent shape too.

Can't make out model # yet

The old girl may surprise you. My dad‘s sat in his basement for over eight years after he quit mowing his own grass. We pulled it out a couple of years ago and after a complete tuneup, fresh fuel lines, filter, new battery, and fresh gas it started right up and is still running good today.  This is what it looked like when we pulled it out.

Thinking I'll give it a warm bubble bath then see why the rear cylinder is at 15 psi.

Head gasket....... stuck valve....... Loose valve seat....... or the dreaded rings.

valve seat wit 10 to 1 odds. everybody likes to bash on the onan's for valve seat problems, but the B & S had the same problem. I had a 78 AUTO  and a 79 8 speed at the same time. The AUTO was in real nice original shape and the 8 speed need some TLC. Used the hydro in a roto-tilling contest one year at the little guys show. The hydro was so jumpy it made me made and I ended up trading both of them to bearpath for a 93 520. I didn't think the 16 hp motor had any more power then my 314, :hide: just my opinion, so I don't want any hate mail :ROTF: lol good luck I hope you get it running and have fun with it

Haha.  It’s a fun little truck. It’s sat out it’s whole life but it’s 100% rust free other than the surface. And older gentleman bought it new in 1983 in Arkansas and he couldn’t drive it much as he got older but it sat under a tree with no protection it’s whole life. It only has 100k miles on it. It’s a  V6 with a 4 speed and factory AC.  Here are a couple pics when I first got it a few years ago.

You nailed it Eric. Exhaust seat is burnt to rat. Will pull the engine to get a close look at how bad.
