Can see 03-08BPxx but you may also.

That leaves 01 for 1980, 02 for 1981 and 03 for 1983. If info is correct 1982 got missed.

I had one of those 30 yrs. who when I bought my house. It was old then! The deck was constantly on and it only had recoil start. It was a bear to turn over but it would trim around trees like nobody's business.

The B&S engine code may help. Believe it starts with year month then day.

1980 and 1981 engine numbers 191707-5663-01

1983 engine numbers 191707-5821-01

Adding

The 1980 pto switch appears to be a push button style.

No info on the 1981

The 1983 switch looks the same as yours http://www.partstree.com/parts/toro/parts/98-2392/

Thought of that too but neglected to get pics ...on my way out to the barn now.....

Thanks  @Howie

Does this help @gwest_ca  Ther is a file that identifies the different type safety switches used but doesn't specify years.

Too cold to get washing equipment out and this girl needs a bath.

The first two numbers of the serial number is the year it was made. Post that and it can be figured out.

By the looks of that trailer, Bob was a Busy Boy! :bow-blue:

Wife is waving goodbye. Hoping he takes the kids for about 6 hours. "Now where did I leave my highball"?

I came across an A-81 rear engine rider,  it seems to be in good shape but the steering doesn't turn the wheel just spins and the tires stay straight.   Is this an issue with these ?
