littleredrider 408 #26 Posted April 5, 2018 I have the same issue. I opted for a motor replacement, 10 horse diesel. I guess its not terrible to redo the seats, but just don't feel like it. Maybe when I swap motors, I'll look into it for a spare for my other tractor....

I personally don't like the idea of putting a different one on it. That's just me though.
Ed Kennell 35,708 #28 Posted April 6, 2018 I would pull the heads off and take a look before I went looking for an engine. If you are set on staying with the P-220 Onan, you may want to consider a rebuild vs putting in a used one that may have the same problems.

Guess I know what the problem is. So my next question is, is it better to rebuild or get another engine? If rebuild, what all is involved? They both seem really low. Mine are all around 120 PSI. I would at least pull the heads and check things out.

I said 30PSI because that's the first figure I saw on the gauge. As I kept turning it over, the PSI kept going up. I stopped when it hit 90. I figured it was building up pressure in the gauge and I didn't want to mess up the gauge since it was my dad's. I've never tested compression before - sorry. I work in IT and I'm learning from you guys and my dad. . Never too old to learn, I guess? Edited April 6, 2018 by TC10284
cleat 4,936 #31 Posted April 6, 2018 Well, then just pull the bad side head and check things out. Likely a valve seat but you never know.
Howie 882 #32 Posted April 6, 2018 I generally crank one over until gauge stops going up. Will not go way up on the first revolution. The 90 is a little low but that one would run.
