You are correct...no reverse and no brake.  Brake came in a kit you could add latter on.  This is 1955, 1956, 1957...no need to back up or stop.  :occasion-xmas:  Elvis is in the building.  :)  first star to the right and straight on till morning.

dumb question but being ignorant to these tractors. do they not have reverse or am i missing something

The engine pulley had a brass ring built into it and when the pulley that goes to the variable drive is pushed all the way forward it would contact the ring and cause the tractor to go backward. The owner manual said this would be used to stop the tractor also.

Awesome work!  Even looks like it has a guide coat applied.  Ready for paint?

Not much done lately on the RJ.  Waiting on some parts.  Did get the lift handle spring on but needs adjusted.

Found the original paint color under lift handle grip.

Where did you get the spring? I have an RJ 58 that would use a lift handle spring like that.

McMaster-Carr.  This one is a little larger than original but works.  Send me your mailing address and I can send you one.  I had to order extra for a minimum order.  I can't use 8....lol

The RJ's heart arrived today.  Yes it runs but needs carburetor cleaned and maybe a few parts.  Needle valve lools bent.  But I'm happy

You can use a Carter or Carter clone for a carb, I bought one off that web site, think Chuck keeps them too. The gas tank will be a little tougher.
