deck removal

Recommended Posts

porkchop

I,m tearing down my first project and wondered how the deck is most easily removed. It,s a c-101 with a tachamatic hitch system. I also wonder where to find the little clips that are used as nuts with the bolts to hold all the sheet metal together. It also appears the rear axle seals and other seals on the differential need replaced. Any suggestions will be helpful.

If I had not done so before....

I am not familiar with the kind of clips (speed nuts) ever

used on a wheel horse deck before. Nor have I found any

on the tractor itself. (newer models may differ)

I use them on automobiles all the time.

To remove any of my tach a matic decks.... I first lower

it to the ground with the lift lever. Then loosen the plastic

tightening nut on the front of the mule drive (belt tensioner).

Then remove the belt from the top pulley on the deck and

leave it lay out front of the tractor.

You can then remove the mid-lift rod which is "L" shaped

from the top of the deck. (found on many tractors.....others

might use a simple threaded rod and trunion).

Then push in the rod/button on the left side of the tractor

located on the frame rail midway from front to back of the

tractor itself. Should see the word tach a matic near it.

Once that button is pushed you tap the metal

finger toward the front and the front of the deck will drop

off. Slide it out on the same side that the wheel height

adjustment lever is on. Reverse proceedure to attach.

The clips are the ones on the mower sheet metal not on the deck. Thanks for the info on the deck.

For finding speednuts I would try autoparts stores and

hardware stores.

C-Series14

Not to brag  but I have removed and installed so many decks on C-Series, I can remove and install one in under a minute!

Seriously though, it is the easiest deck I have ever seen...

Oh, and

I also wonder where to find the little clips that are used as nuts with the bolts to hold all the sheet metal together.

Those are part #107069, and are about 75 cents each through the parts houses. Probably can find something equivalent at a good hardware store for a better price?

C101Mike

Porkchop  Great bunch here, I have learned a lot just reading the posts, I'm working on a C101 also, you should be able to find those clips at Advance, Auto Zone etc, or Tractor Supply also has a good selection of hardware, got mine far enough along now that it is running again. Runs great, good piece of equipment. My C101 is my first wheel horse, I expect more will come, I guess you could say I lost my virginity to this one. Here's a picture of where I am at on mine.
