My choice would be the 3/4 restored RJ. That way you have a project that can be completed while you re-organize your requirements for the new location.

I am currently doing the same thing although my move is now only about two to three months away. Mrs. Sailor and I have been working with the seller of our future home for over a month (they are in a nasty divorce) and we are being very patient about it. A final agreement was reached over the weekend so now moving ahead with further downsizing my collection. The new property is different than my current one so requirements have changed. Going from two acres to a bit less than half an acre with no trees means saws, chipper, and splitter are definitely getting sold.  Not doing five neighbors drives and my own means little snow removal.  A 40" gate presents a problem with mower decks so that will need to be addressed with probably with a new beehind purchase, although gear driven - with an accent .  :)

For options at the other end in terms of storage - look into the newer generation of "shed in a box" offerings. They have gotten a lot better, especially the outer materials and off a lot of options in both size and cost. For what they run now, if you have a very limited amount of room I'd consider doing that and keep at least 2 . The biggest reason I'd almost lean to the GT14/16 model is weight and brute strength - plus, it's not hard to convert it over to use the later quick attach implements although some mods as it is not just a bolt-on affair. Frame strength and all of that comes into play and that model is a beast, probably in many ways better than the bigger D too with no drive coupling on the pump system. The C series is so attractive due to it's rugged layout and overall simplicity - they are a pleasure to work on compared to the newer offerings and would be equal in choice to the bigger GT14/16. Having two with that engine, perfect combination...as well as trans choice as a bonus.

Aldon, as you spent TOP dollar on all these gems I think in the end you may have to decide what is the minimum dollar $ amt you would accept for each steed and then those go that make the cut list. While all our fellow constituents are perfect gentleman we all are also known for our tightness of those 6 inch green presidential notes.  Love ya man we will all miss you.

Will your new location only require mowing duty? Are there other uses not identified here?

Don't want to get off topic...but.. How does that 14 auto handle the 2 stage, and would you be better off with a tall shoot single. And if you've got room for that closed in trailer at the new place, plenty of room for two :wh:'s. :handgestures-thumbupright:

Well it’s a bit hard to say with absolute certainty as I am not only looking at a relocation which will put me somewhere I will likely have some longevity but also a potential role change or promotion which would put me in an unspecified location. And then to top it off, there is always a chance that the management does not make any of it worth the trouble and I stay put.

id say 65% Boise ID, 15% Salt Lake City or Austin tX or Portland OR and maybe 15% I stay in current location. 5% of something completely unknown. Boise & Salt Lake would be very light mowing and hauling and Austin would be similar but slightly more mowing. Boise gets very little Snow. SLC gets some but not enough to keep the 2 Stage. Portland would be heavy mowing and little snow.

As it stands, only high probability is that we are going to relocate. The Promotion could come after the relo requiring another move. As such we will need to rent until things stabilize. So storage is very likely going to have to be additional rental storage not on the rental house property. Home lots are small and rental homes that have enough space for large trailer and tractors are on the expensive side.

A lot of variables that make it very fluid. So I have decided to take the conservative approach. I can always start the journey of rebuilding a herd once things stabilize if it makes sense or should I retire somewhere Horse friendly.

It does well enough but one has to be sensitive to how fast you try and make it cut through snow. Can’t just hit the forward speed at max.

If you wind up in Austin, let me know. I am down that way regularly. Horses are fairly scarce down here, but not extinct.

I voted for keeping the RJ-35.  I'm just a Roundhood kind of guy.  :occasion-xmas:  Beside, you can always find a "C" or a "D".  :handgestures-thumbupright:  It is actually too bad you have to let any of them go...they all look like new.  :bow-blue:

It's a tough call. Really depends on your needs down the road. For work, for show, or both? Only you know the answer.

Love the Predator swap. Personally that's the first one I'd unload. Ya know it won't last as long as a kohler

But more power and easily replaceable for the cost of a Kohler Rebuild. Perhaps less.

I'm an hour from Austin and go there almost weekly for work. If you end moving this direction let me know if I can help you with anything. I could store a few horses in a barn at the farm if it would help

I have both the C160 hydro and a 314-8 and both are very nice condition.  But I use the C160 over the 314-8. I just like it better then all my tractors. It's easier to repair and drive . But I'm glade I don't have to make your choice of just 1 because I would have to keep 2.

I'm not touching this question!

But I considered myself a regular and I didn't know about your relocation!  Further north? <grin>  We could ride together to shows!

That's what I was thinking wherever you go there are a lot of members all over the US who would be willing to store some horses until you find out exactly what you're doing and where you're going to end up. Might be a good idea to store some near your home now if you can find anyone close enough until you find a more permanent place and if you do decide to sell any you would have more time.

If you do end up staying at home you can always bring them back if you store them nearby :D

I'm with Steve on this one.  My way of looking at it is I love the early round hoods - on my wish list - and the RJ-35 has the rarety factor.

Several suggested let the market place choose.

As such, I will be posting the classified ad in next few days.

I think we are close enough you could store that GT-22 at my house. Seriously I will need to remove myself from this topic as the keys are getting wet looking at that GT 22:angry-chillpill::angry-chillpill::angry-chillpill::angry-chillpill:

I agree with the statement to store and see where you end up then sell, if wheel horses are rare where you end up might be able to get a better price

Amen to store, store, store........even prior to moving. Can always discard later with forum member's cooperation.

:text-yeahthat:

Let go what isn't relevant, really important, or to which you have no long term emotional attachment.

Liquidate what you must, then squirrel the rest away at your comrade's abodes.

Then take with you what will suffice...........wherever you go, when you move.

I agree - you have a fluid situation and those models are too tough to source again in decent condition. Yes, they would all bring very good money but consider how their value will probably climb as they age further - storing them is a great idea if you can pull it off and looks like others that care about them are willing - that's most of the battle. Honestly, you'd have to pry those out of my dead, cold fingers...

Well we shall see how things go. No solid choices but that should not be surprising since my situation is so fluid.

I have posted in the Classifieds and similarly on CL in my local area of Corinth/Saratoga/Glens Falls NY.

Aldon,

It appears, on the surface to me, you are letting the marketplace determine what, if anything, you are left with.

i.e., you aren't necessarily resolved to absolutely take anything with you, no matter where you wind up.

Am I "ciphering" correctly, Dr. Trimble???

Wooohooo!! Well after 7 long & hope drifting years iv finally done it I found me a WHEELHORSE! I'm in the south, those of you that don't know (all of you above the mason-dixon line) looking for a garden tractor, well it's like trying to find a grain of salt on the beach. I first had my interest peeked 8ish years ago when we went on vacation in northern TN. While up there, there was a guy who had 2 cub cadets parked in his yard, one with a sickle bar mower and one with a hammer knife mower on the front and I thought that was so cool. Fast forward several month's of digging and reading and I had made my mind up, my tractor had to & was going to be a WHEELHORSE no matter how long it took to find it! The days turned to weeks the weeks to month's and the month's to years......welp.... that's that it's not in my card's, I guess i'll just have to go green. My hunt slowed down to a crawl, still look but pushed to the back burner, better yet put in the far corner of the attic but still hoping that one day I will own a garden tractor (didn't matter what color at this point) although not very hopeful. Then one day I'm on market place and I see an ad for a 314H hmmm bet facebook has tricked me again, then I look at the location and its in my town.....wait just a min..... that's just a half mile up the road from me, so I click the ad. I start reading it "vintage toro mower for sale don't know much about it I think it will run just needs a carb and some wiring" but I cant tell much from the pics but what I can tell is that it has been sitting under a pine tree for a pretty long amount of time. I send the guy a message and set of a time to look at it, the next day when I got off work I make a B line to his house (on the same road I live on, I know right) and to the back yard we go. He tells me that the older guy he bought the hose from traded him so work for the mower and he didnt know much about it, but the PO had put a briggs carb on it and it was bogging down when engaging the pto is what the PO told him. (i will be posting more pics and when I do you will understand this next part better). I'm standing there looking at it as he's telling me this and I lift the hood and he points and tells me "that is the briggs carb he put on there I think if you replace that it will run" what he was pointing at was a huff-n-puff that had been put on to do away with the OEM pump. So by now I'm glowing inside, and I ask him his price he tells me $200 but if i was really interested he would do it for $125, I ask him if I can think about it over the weekend (this was on a friday) he say's thats good with him. I come home and immediately find this place and after digging on here I new right away I was going back and buying that thing monday!
I head to his house monday after work money in hand, but before I hand him the money he ask me "yall own the NAPA store in the next town over with the tire shop right?" yes sir we do "can yall mount some tires for me?" yes sir we can "if you will mount & balance 4 tires for me ill just trade you out even". I shook his hand and the deal was made, that was at the begging of september and after some looking over the tractor reading on here and waiting on parts, I got it home last week (i had it at my shop at our napa store).
Sorry for the long post everyone!!

Price reduced to $1,350. Please IM BillKC if you are interested or have questions.

I have an RJ-35 and two RJ-58s for sale that need to go to a good home. Also included is a snowplow, three K91s, and two spare rear wheels w/tires mounted. I mounted a newer engine on the RJ-58 just to push snow and do some light mowing for fun. The RJ-35 runs great and fun to drive around and experience the beginning history of the Wheel Horse lineup. Someone before me started restoring one of them so it is a project. Paint is great but needs put back together. I also have a copy of Straight from the Horse’s Mouth (2000 copyright) that goes with these tractors.

I don't have any way to transport these so Local pickup in Smithville, MO.

Do not want to separate the lot. You can buy them all and sell what you don't want to other collectors.

      Thanks,

      Bill

A HUGE thank you to Tony @Docwheelhorse for settin' me up here.

The generosity of some of our members never ceases to amaze me.

This here is another 1974 C160, but with the rare Tecumseh HH/OH160 OHV engine. Made one year only.

It's rough. Very much in need of a full disassembly and restoration.

When it came here it was missing one tie rod and the other was broken off one end.
Today I popped used tie rods on and Trina used her 867 to drag it from the drive to the shed.

      The engine wouldn't move.
Tin was near chock full of skeletal mouseseses and their house.
Cleaned that out and the engine spins freely now.

      So progress has been made.

It'll be a good long while before we get to this one but I just couldn't turn it down considering the rarity.

      Hello,

I am hoping someone can help my. I recently acquired a c160 for the engine for another tractor. So I did a motor swap and wanted to see what the hydro was like. I put a plow on it C-160 (which now has a 12hp engine on it). I did a quick test run and everything was good. I drained the fluid and change the filter (Napa 1410 filter and sae 30 transmission fluid as it stated to only use this fluid on the tractor.) everything was working great after the fluid change. I plowed two driveways and the sidewalks near my house... all the sudden the tractor would not go forwards or in reverse. I tried to pick the plow up and nothing... I checked my drive belt it was turning like it should. I started to push the tractor and the rear was engaged so it would not move. Of course I was 400’ from my driveway and the plow was down which made it fun. I put the tractor in forward and started to push it and the thing took off. So I hopped on and took it to the front of the garage. I put it in revers and it cut out again so I pushed it in the garage. Today I went out to check the tow valve. I took it out and cleaned the threads up put it back in and it did not change anything. According to the dipstick I have the proper amount of fluid in it. I did have a drip that I fixed on the cylinder still nothing... does anyone out there have any tips to help me out? I’ve never had a transmission like this only manual transmissions. The model of this transmission is the sundstrand 90-1140.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Brian
