Hello new to the forum I just bought a 1997 520h with 387 hrs  has a snowblower single stage and mower deck its in real good shape  i think it just needs a little maintaince.  Engine surges hopefully just needs a carb and tank cleaning. Headlights don t work and need to replace a idler sprocket on blower and possible have to replace the lift seal because the snowblower won't stay up it slowly lowers not sure if that's normal because if weight or needs to be fixed. Overall very happy I bought it  I grew up using my father's 520h

Attachments drifting down while engine not running is normal, surging most likely a carb cleaning due, as far as the plastic tank it doesn't rust but the strainer/filter on the shut off valve will corode from ethanol which most likely has deteriorated the fuel lines from the inside out which could be clogging the carb, change them out from tank to carb with a new fuel filter as well also try some seafoam or something similar after cleaning/replacing ,that low of hours it shouldn't be hurt, good luck with the new toy and welcome to RedSquare, Jeff.

Does it lift "fast" without hesitation or lots of noise? Is there any evidence of oil leaking under/around the left floor board? If not I would change out the hydro/trans fluid and filter a couple of times as it ALL won't come out just draining, it is supposed to have 10w30 motor oil in there and if has something else there might be your issue, Jeff.

Good looking tractor.

Must have been kept inside most of it's life to stay that nice and red.

They love to fade to a dull pink.

Lift should stay up longer than that. Something is leaking.

However, like WVHillbilly520H said, a fluid change may help.

My diesel loader tractor (full size, not a wheel horse) would drop both the loader and 3 point overnight until I changed

out the trans-hydraulic fluid from cheap walmart brand to good Shell Rotella. Expensive since it takes two 5 gallon pails

but worth it in the end.

Now everything stays up until I lower it.

A good carb cleaning then running nothing in it but ethanol free high test will keep her running good.

Put on one of Matt's foot control kits and you will never look back.

Did it come with the 48" or 60" deck ?

The 48" deck is a great unit.

Get us more pictures when you get it home.

I love my 520's and none of mine started out looking as good as yours.

Losing my mind tractor won't start all I get is clicking at the relay I had to wiggle the fuse and clean it when I got it to have power but today only clicking at rely getting 12 volts at starter but only 10.3 at the coil thinking it maybe that relay went bad from the bad fuse connection is that possible and yes I checked the seat sensor

There's a neutral safety switch behind the panel below the ignition switch for the motion control, my switch arm had broken off but could be out of adjustment or not fully contacting ,also the PTO safety switch under the fuse block beside the battery that gets corroded as well as the "dreaded" 9 pin connector for the engine harness from battery gases, try pulling the 9 pin apart and putting it back together to help loosen the corrosion if it's bad I replaced it with "bullet" connectors and dielectric grease before putting back together, and wiggling the PTO lever while trying the key, Jeff.

I jumped the starter got it running turned out that the safety switch which I thought I went thoroughly threw was the problem you really have to bend it to work thinking the old rock hard foam in the seat wasn't flexing enough thanks again

It's easy enough to "jump" that switch unless you have little ones you don't want getting into trouble, see the looped black wire to the plastic connector orange and brown wires all it takes, Jeff.

Now that we are finding more uses for the 1990 520H with a KwikWay loader I am experiencing some power loss in the hydro after about a half hour to 45 minutes??????
      Ideas?

Selling my trusty WH520H.  ~880 hours (currently used for moving snow when needed so hours may rise) very solid machine, strong and hardworking.  20HP Onan, hydro transmission and hydraulic lift.  Has Matt's foot-pedal conversion for forward/reverse.  Included in the sale is a tall-chute snow blower and 60" mowing deck.  The blower is in excellent condition and is on the tractor currently.  The mowing deck has been a workhorse over the years.  No holes but could use some TLC, probably needs new spindles at some point and could use a couple spots touched up with welder also does NOT have any pulley covers/protectors (see photo).  Tractor has been an incredible tool, very solid and dependable and I'm certainly going to miss her when she's gone.

Recent maintenance: replaced the plugs this summer, fluids as needed (hydro has about 100 hours on fluid/filter; oil was done in the spring and has about 25 hours on it).  Battery is about 3 years old as are the tires, Terra Trac tires on the rear and turfs on the front.  The seat (with arm rests) isn't in great shape.  I've got a cover for the seat, never used.  It's never really bothered me but new seat cover is included in sale as are 4 hub caps, chains for the rear tires, and some misc spare parts (see photos).

I've owed this machine about 8 year and put ~350 hours on her.  She's not a show piece but could be restored.  Sheet metal is generally in shape, no rust however the hood does have a couple dings in it.

I'm only selling because I'm trying to help my son get a small lawn care business started and looking to move to a zero-turn.  The 60" deck is too large for our trailer, the mowing deck lacks pulley safety shields, and we'd like something that mows faster.  My only complaint with this machine is the top-speed (which isn't great when comparing to today's machines) otherwise she's a beast.  They don't make them like this anymore.
