Presuming you are talking about a manual shift rather than a hydro the Gear Oil is what should be used.

Nothing wrong with the Mystik brand oil.  The 75w-90 would be a good choice for a gear shift model.

The manual said SAE 90W GL-5 I'm having a hard time finding  that.  The 75W-90 would probably  work. I just want to make sure

GL-5 is the most common gear oil used in manual transmissions and differentials. GL-4 is intended for transmissions that have the older style brass synchro's or lower gear units on boats. That said. stick to the regular GL-5. If you want it to shift easier - especially in cold weather you can use 75W90 in either synthetic or regular type differential oils . I prefer the 75W90 as it has a better ability to get into needle bearings in low temps and prevent wear upon startup. Straight 90W oil is more like a sticky tar that puts quite a bit of drag on parts when it's colder than 30*F or so ....

If you have a Walmart close by, they sell a nice store brand GL-5 oil. Comes in either 80W-90, or 85W-140 under the SuperTech label. Either will be fine in a Uni-Drive transmission. All of my 4 and 8-speeds use the 85W-140.

I don't want to sound like i'm badmouthing Super-Tech ( Walmart's brand ) because I feel that it's fine for a light / medium duty application .

But after running it for one summer ( about 800 miles ) in the 4 wheeler's rear diff , I had some unusual wear on the ring gear and pinion (caged-roller) bearing .

So for those of you thinking about using this in a high-pressure severe duty application , I would suggest a better lubricant .

Again , not badmouthing it because I do use it in things like the snowblowers' gear box etc..

WalMart Semi Syn is fine. We're talking about put pu-tin around in our yards not 230 MPH at Indy. The advancement in oils the last 20 yrs is light years ahead of the oil that most of these transmissions came with.

I understand what you are saying, and I don't think I'd put SuperTech in something like that either, but you are talking about a horse of a different color. 800 miles in a four-wheeler is not the same as one summer in a Wheel Horse at about 4 mph. I don't think you can compare the toughness of a Uni-Drive to anything else in it's class, and as I have said before, any brand of new oil beats a mixture of oil and water that is found in many Wheel Horse transmissions today.

@rmaynard hit the nail on the head.  Really doesn't make much difference what you use as long as you keep the water out.  L-107 50 years working, all year round the last 18 yrs, still running 40 w motor oil... no tranny issues.

I was at Blaines Farm n Fleet. I have a C-100 and a B-80. I used 85W-140 GL5 on those. I think that was close to manufactures suggestion. Thank you for all the suggestions. I didn't  know Wal-Mart carried gear lube. I wanted to use at least a 80 weight oil. I'll post my purchase! The rubber boot on top the transmission  is in great shape. Gonna leave it!

Each year when I go to the big WHCC show, I always pick up a bag of #3577 shifter boots. Guess you might call me a hoarder. On my old B-100 worker, which sometime sits out in the weather, I seal the top of the boot around the shift lever with clear silicon caulk.

I decided to go with the GL5 80W-90. The manual says 2 quarts for the transmission.  If I do that, the oil will flow out of the fill hole. I tipped the tractor  up when draining  the old oil. Did Wheel Horse change the transmission  oil capacity  from my 75 B-80 and C-100?
