K532 with K482 bore?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Time to do the engine. It has K532 cast into the block. So I was a little surprised to measure a K482 bore size.

Is this normal?

Thanks, Pete

The Kohler twins are a bit like the VW air cooled engines. Your block remains the same and the stroke of the crank or the jug/piston size is changed to go from 18 HP to 20 HP.

I had questioned the same thing on my K482 (on the tins) when I found the K532 casting marks - the only difference is the bore size evidently . There is another engine like that in the K301/K241 single cylinder K's - all are marked 301 but some are 10hp K241 internally . It's almost a requirement to tear one down first and then order parts - plus you'll know if it needs an oversized piston or other parts due to wear . It is best to let a machine shop do the measurements and fitting work to the long block section unless you have a lot of experience with these - mistakes can cost you a block and a lot of new parts .

I'm glad to hear this. It looks like I can use parts from other motors. So more parts and less money.

I've been looking for a good engine guy. If I do it right maybe it will last more than 40+ years :)

Seriously though, what a beast of a motor.

@Petes Horse If you have a NAPA store check with them . They have a small engine shop here in Richmond which I understand does great work. I know Richmond is too far perhaps Napa or some other auto parts place may have a suggestion.
