TIGman 2,006 #1 Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) Wasn't sure where to post this, but I think I figured out the problem with the drive belt squealing. The clutch spring 1129 which from what I can see, also puts tension on the drive belt idler pulley number 36 in parts drawing. Apparently the gentleman who had the tractor before broke off part of the hook on the clutch spring and added a smaller spring for the hook. As a result it doesn't have the correct strength. Does anyone have any specifics on the spring size and length or where I can purchase one. Thank you!! in advance Edited December 12, 2017 by TIGman
UncleJerm76 103 #2 Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) Repair Clinic shows it being listed as also fitting a snow blower. Maybe that will broaden the audience and someone can chime in https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Spring/1129/2147795 If you have an Ace Hardware/Crowder Brothers near you they have a huge assortment of springs. I'm sure you could find one in there nearly identical to the original if someone replies with spring specs. Just FYI - mine has also been replaced with a small spring and a coat hanger attached to it goes the rest of the distance Edited December 12, 2017 by UncleJerm76 1
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,481 #3 Posted December 12, 2017 See if this link will work to some applications http://www.partstree.com/parts/toro/parts/1129/ ST-323 snowthrower and a couple of B-Series 3-speed models used the 1129 spring which replaced 100228. The front spring on the RMR-3261 mower deck suspension was 1129 Garry

Again Tig, I will go to the barn tomarow and measure the spring wire size, spring OD and length and post it. I found some at a flea market a few years back with slightly smaller wire and a bit shorter which has been working well. 1

953 nut 51,519 #7 Posted December 13, 2017 The old spring I have has an outside diameter of 0.75" and is made of 0.10" steel with 40 coils measuring 4.35" for the coiled area. Hope this helps.

Lee1977 6,211 #9 Posted December 13, 2017 I have a broken spring on my 312. I just bent the last coil out and made a short loop of heavy wire attached to the rear mounting point to make the length. It's been on their for a couple of years and I haven't noticed any difference in operation. They usually brake off on the attachment loop.

BOB ELLISON 2,976 #11 Posted December 15, 2017 I've been looking into this as I have a 1054 that I want to put back together this spring. (If my health holds out) I have a box of parts and I do remember some Springs in there. But this is what I found so far. https://www.fleetfarm.com/detail/-utility-extension-spring/0000000052997?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6PWP_cKM2AIVm4izCh0L-QIbEAsYCCABEgJzZvD_BwE _______________________________________ http://www.centuryspring.com/extension-spring-80924s.html _______________________________________ Century spring is the most expensive but there close to what @953 nut posted.

I found a two pack of springs at Tractor Supply that could be hook end to end and would get the job done for $ 3.99 https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/extension-spring-3-4-in-x-2-5-8-in-x-105-in--pack-of-2?cm_vc=-10005 Extension Spring, 3/4 in. x 2-5/8 in. x .105 in. , Pack of two
BOB ELLISON 2,976 #13 Posted December 15, 2017 @953 nut Richard I also see it in music wire ?????????? I guess it plays a tune when you apply pressure on foot pedal. For $16.107. I can't figure out how to pay .107 in change. Still to expensive for me. But maybe it could work. You have a good idea in the 2 spring setup also. http://www.centuryspring.com/extension-spring-80924.html 1

Found a couple of good contenders on the website you have been looking at. Very reasonably priced too. http://www.centuryspring.com/extension-spring-5484.html http://www.centuryspring.com/extension-spring-5530.html 1
TIGman 2,006 #15 Posted December 16, 2017 I really appreciate all of your input guys and links and suggestions for spring replacements. Was going to mention that as 953 suggested, I ordered and should have a new idler pulley here today. I believe it seized up the the other day when I tried to move the tractor. Should have the 1054 back on line for snow plowing duty today!! . Love that tractor. 1
