TIGman 2,006 #1 Posted December 11, 2017 Got home from work went to start the 1054 it would barely roll over. Battery was good ,so I cleaned all the connections on the starter. Success!! That was till the starter belt broke..... Got it started with pull rope. Yay !! Started plowing off the little bit of snow we had today and the drive belt started slipping/screeching on flat ground.... Almost done plowing and the tractor stopped like I turned the key off. Pushed the tractor up to the house.... I think Murphy kicked my butt today!! lol Oh well..... 5

953 nut 51,001 #4 Posted December 11, 2017 If a 1054 quits running it must be out of gas (or the battery went dead from no S/G belt). 36 minutes ago, TIGman said: slipping/screeching Probably the idler pulley needs to be replaced.

Probably the idler pulley needs to be replaced. I'll check out the idler pulley, also wondered about the tension spring? I see the guy had what looks to be the original spring with a small spring added on the end?
TIGman 2,006 #7 Posted December 12, 2017 Well I figured out why the tractor died. The ground cable lug where it was connected broke. No ground, no run, imagine that..... A trip to the local farm store will find another starter belt. Also wondering if it has the correct length drive belt? 4

If it has been working properly up to now I would guess it is the correct size. Should be a 4L-820 or A-80 12 minutes ago, TIGman said: imagine that Knew it couldn't be to serious,
DougC 2,641 #9 Posted December 12, 2017 When the idler pulley bearing screeched so loud on my 95 520H and the lady next door dropped her leaf rake and jumped into the air and turned around with a scowl on her face, I knew it was time to find and repair the problem..................... 1
