cod 112 #1 Posted November 24, 2017 Any info/warnings about running a 418 with a Kohler 18hp engine on 5-30 oil over the winter. Most of the time where I live in MD the winter temps when I'd have to clear the driveway are between 15 and 35 degrees and I've got gobs of 5-30 for the family fleet so if I can use it for the WH that would be great. Thanks - Cod
JoeM 7,443 #2 Posted November 24, 2017 I used 5-30 in my 418HC, never an issue. Still running good with over 1200 hours.
pfrederi 17,031 #3 Posted November 24, 2017 Kohler recommends it. I used in my 418 before she was removed from winter duties. (Takes forever for the hydro lift to start working)
Skipper 1,788 #4 Posted November 24, 2017 Its perfectly fine. I run 0-40 full synt on all of my engines. Any of the multigrade oils above xx-30 is far superior to old style SAE30. I know it is a religion........it is also a fact
WVHillbilly520H 10,369 #5 Posted November 24, 2017 I've run 10w30 (Castrol GTX) engine and transmission in my 520H since I bought it new in '98, no engine or hydro issues to date, only thing I've changed is using high mileage synthetic blend instead of straight dino juice, Jeff.
