steering clicking-416

when i turn the steering all the way to the left i get this loud clicking.it will keep doing it as long as i keep turning it.

Sounds like the steering gear and fan gear are not meshing properly or teeth are worn on one or both.

Your bevel (pinion)  gear is jumping over the tooth in the fan gear. These can be shimmed & the steering gear maybe moved down (if it has moved up over a period of time) or if it hasn't been serviced (greased) properly the bracket may be worn badly. Also the fan gear could have a chipped tooth (or worn). They can sometimes be beyond repair & need replacement. Only you can make that determination.

the 417 I got last spring did the same thing. i used a large washer to shim it and now it's fine.

 

funny... none of my C series machines have that problem

I think the stouter hood stands on the older models have something to do with this phenomenon.

I've seen the block broken and in one case of one tractor that I had, it had been brazed repaired, I believe I remember of a tractor or two C series skipping like that.
