K91 recoil question

Recommended Posts

seven

I just purchased a recoil cup off of eBay and it doesn't fit into the recoil that I have currently so either I have the wrong recoil cup or the wrong recoil can somebody please tell me what the inside diameter of the recoil cup should be the one I got off of eBay is 2 and 1/4 inch inside diameter.. and a recoil that I had laying here I'm not sure if it was the right one for this tractor but that measures 2 and 3/8 inch outside diameter on the cogs

It might help if you post some pictures of both.

At that time Kohler did not make their own recoil, so the K91 could have 1 of three different recoils. You could have a Schnacke, Tecumseh, or a Fairbanks recoil.  Each company used their own style of cup.

Sounds like I need to find the correct cup for my recoil or visa versa?

If you can post a picture of your recoil I can tell you which one you have.

Sorry I'm not able to send pictures anyway I'm either going to redo the one I have or just build one from scratch.

This may help you out .

This is what a Schnacke recoil looks like. These are more rare & usually bring big bucks when you can find them.

A Tecumseh recoil will have a stamped steel body but will look nothing like the Schnacke.

A Fairbanks recoil will have a cast aluminum body.

Hope this helps you ID what you have,

And this may add a bit more confusion to the mix. These are K91's as well. Both are Fairbanks-Morse starters.

Thanks for the schooling Bob! I was unaware the Fairbanks Morris made a stamped steel body recoil.
