williambogner 0 #1 Posted February 12, 2009 Hey guys. Ive never delt with a Kohler before. I got a k301 and just wondering if im going to run into any trouble putting new points in. Condensor is just a bolt-on thing. Is it easy to put in and adjusting?? All the help would be good. I got a good idea of what to do but never have put new ones in...thanks
nylyon-(Admin) 7,088 #2 Posted February 12, 2009 It's easy. Remove the 2 screws on the breaker cover, rotate the engine until the points are fully opened, remove the points. Install the new ones and set the gap to .020.
WHC-125 4 #3 Posted February 12, 2009 Make sure they are gapped right though or it will run like crap And will you should ad some of the pics that you sent to me on here of your restoration of the 12 Auto.

WHC-125 4 #5 Posted February 12, 2009 Feeler Gauge would work the best in my opinion. And Advance Auto has them for $5.

WHC-125 4 #7 Posted February 13, 2009 The push rod wont come out?
sawhorse 0 #8 Posted February 13, 2009 I think those electronic "thingys" that replace both the points and condenser are still available. Might have been Northern tool where I saw them for sale. I'm not of any help with the old points and condenser, I've been down that road.
Rollerman 290 #9 Posted February 13, 2009 The pushrod does not move much. Double check also that the push rod is free in the hole going hrough the block. (Topic moved & merged to the Kohler engine section)
