Biggest wheels possible

Recommended Posts

Skipper

I'm doing a little post restomod project info gathering.

I'm contemplating going banannas big on the rear tires. So I need anyone with intell to chime inn here. What is possible?

Project is a C-195. Born with 27x12.5-15

I know 29" will work, and with a little room to spare.

My thourghts is: Can I put 31" on.? I'm ready to do a bit of fabrication, and custom rims will be a given.

Bet it would look good with 31x15.5-15 on eaqually wide rims. http://www.millertire.com/products/dune-buggy-tires/31x15-50-15/31x15-50-15-sta-traxion-lug-8-ply/ this is the widest tire I have been able to find.

Or two rim blanks welded together, kind of a permanent dually setup, to make anything from 19" to 31" wide rubbers.

Any insight is greatly appreciated

Thanks

I would say; If you doing a custom job, then your imagination & fab skills would be your only limits. I think 31x15.5-15's would look great!

Don't trust the advertised sizes. Many are almost an inch shorter.

Diameter or width?

Advertised diameter is rarely correct - you have to look at the tires specs to get the real diameter . Be aware that much wider and taller tires will put a huge amount of stress on those axles and differential - bearings are going to have a pretty short life span at that size you want .

Why not go with 33 inch tires and shim the fender pan a little if necessary ?    :confusion-shrug:
