Would a clear coat finish keep you from having to do that for a while?

I had to flip the seats tilting base plate over to clear the sliding seat adjusters locking lever.   That exposed the four spacers that are normally hidden by the vertical sides of the base plate.    Those two rubber bumpers are parts of a boat trailer roller.

It actually took more time to fix the seat than polish the hub caps.   The slide rails and bearings were locked up with rust and hadn't worked for a long time.
