Matt_nett 46 #1 Posted August 20, 2017 Does anyone know if any of the bigger carbs from the 12hp plus Stratton engines will fit on the 8hp a-81 engine? And where to source parts? Cheers matt

Matt_nett 46 #3 Posted August 20, 2017 No just wondered if it would give it a bit more grunt? Need new air intake and exhaust aswell. Apart from that it's spot on. Just needs seat redoing , respray and restickered.

WVHillbilly520H 10,369 #5 Posted August 20, 2017 I hear that's the way the Kohlers were set up 1 carb for 7-9 then 10-12 and 14-16hp and so forth so in theory using the next size carb should boost power somewhat, but like on cars you can go "too" big and loose your low end but gain it all on the top end, Jeff.
Matt_nett 46 #6 Posted August 21, 2017 It's just finding a carb that fits 😅
Electro12WH 50 #7 Posted August 22, 2017 Throwing more gas in it won't help if you don't have the cam and valves to make use of it. You'll open the throttle and it will just bog down. The whole system must be improved together.
Lee1977 6,210 #8 Posted August 22, 2017 What will help those old flat head Brigg engines is to take a rotor steel grinding tool and clean out all the casting crap in the intake and exaust ports. You will have to remove the valves to do a good cleaning. If there are tapped holes for an exaust flange removing the pipe treads will help also.

It started out as a virgin SB400 now it's bored out .030" over to 406 CI with Dart heads with a healthy solid roller Comp cam, forged 10.3-1 CR pistons on a Eagle crank and i-beam rods, pushing around 580 HP at the flywheel by a computer Dyno program so +/- 15% in the real world, Jeff.
