Another paint question... kinda...

Recommended Posts

Rough Cut

My paint question is a bit different. It is probably a preference type question. Here goes.

When re doing a tractor, is it ok to do a more "non traditional" paint color? One of the reasons to redo a tractor is to make it your own. I'm not talking about going and painting your horse Steiger green or anything. But im really considering red frame, wheels belt guard and then a white hood and grill. I'm working on 704.

If anyone has pics... i love pics.

It's your tractor, do what you want to do with it.  Some owners like to keep them as original as possible, others don't worry so much about that.  Make it your own, unless you're thinking of selling it somewhere down the road. Then that might affect the selling price.

Just my preference and thought, if you radically alter the tractor then it's OK to radically alter the color.  A restoration would include the proper color.

My 2 cents.

You own it and we are privileged to live in the land of the free! Do your thing, if others don't appreciate it and you are bothered by that then you can always paint it again. Here is one that was at this year's "Big Show".

There was a movement by a certain political party to form a committee of tractor inspectors that would prohibit such behavior under the auspices of the (ATF( Alcohol, Tractors & Firearms) , but that was defeated  at the last election.  :text-imsorry:

Yes make it your own especially if you intend to keep it awhile. Paint is just for looks and can be easily changed. Mechanicals can be too but to a harder degree.

As was said above, if you are looking at resale I recommend keeping as close to original as possible.  If you plan on keeping it, build it the way you want it and paint it to your tastes.  At the end of the day, it's your machine and as long as you like it that's what's most important.  I have seen some really odd looking modifications and paint jobs through the years.  However, I've seen others that made me think, "why didn't they paint 'em like that from the factory?"

BTW---:WRS:

my recommendation is tha you become a supporter of the forum so you can post a lot of :text-coolphotos: and start a thread in the restorations section so we can follow and enjoy your :wh: journey too!!!:handgestures-thumbupright:

I'd love to. Feels like a comfortable place so far. I've posted to forums that you get blasted for asking questions. Thanks for being so welcoming.

Could be because they are upgrading the site today?  Moderators could advise for sure!  I'm glad you found us--I've made some good friends here and have learned much as a result of knowing them.
