Gunny 240 #28 Posted August 6, 2017 Nice find Craig. The 1056 I found down here about five years ago was not quite that good, but it did clean up nice.

AMC RULES 36,941 #31 Posted September 3, 2017 Had our first outing today, since getting the 1056 back on its feet... & I gotta say, this old performed flawlessly for my Mrs Rules too.
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,034 #32 Posted September 3, 2017 I saw it in person and loved it. I think it needs some ags out back and a pulling hitch now....

Nope... there's someone out there who could match the paint and airbrush it in (of course with some patina added) and you wouldn't even known that those spots were there. That could get a little costly though. She earned those battle scars sometime in her life, show them off proudly .
AMC RULES 36,941 #37 Posted September 9, 2017 (edited) Decided, the the pitting had to go. So, moving right along today. I removed the hood & started with a light application of an old wire wheel... ...truly amazing how much rust stays hiding under that old factory paint. Remounted the hood, & blocked it using one full sheet of the wet/dry 230 grit. Then, a quick wipe down to reveal it needs more work... OK, switch the grit to 320 now, & hit it again... Now that's a little more like it...time now for a skim coat of spot filler... and, sand to this. Another skim coat for good measure, & sanded with 400. Now a light "guide" coat of acid etching primer... ...& no evidence of the pitting remains. Ran out of daylight for today, will pick this up again tomorrow. squonk 38,844 #39 Posted September 9, 2017 You could have stripped the entire hood, cleared it and told everyone it's chrome!
AMC RULES 36,941 #40 Posted October 24, 2017 Humm...seems that I never posted images of the results of my refurbished hood repaint. Intention was to not make this look like an obvious repaint, but to make it blend into whats left of the factory paint on the hood sides... ultimately knocked down the high gloss with a pad of #0000 steel wool...I'm pretty happy with the final outcome. Anyways...a lot better than it appeared before. 2

ACman 7,505 #42 Posted October 24, 2017 I guess it wasn’t as costly as I expected .... That’s some good blending of paint there Craig it turned out awesome.
AMC RULES 36,941 #43 Posted October 24, 2017 It's really no big deal Jeff... just wanted to illustrate here, that taking your time... utilizing a common sense approach, one can retain the "weathered" factory appearing paint... without doing a complete strip, then repaint job. 2
