In 1992 I went to Warsaw Poland for 2 weeks and was transported around the city in the Flat 126p ( Polish version). A ride I will never forget. 4 people in the car was an over load and the engine barely could move the car. Everyone of these cars I saw had an alarm system. Maybe the owners just wanted to know when someone else was driving the piece of junk.

After the re-unification of Germany, a new aftermarket was created to replace the two-stroke engine in the Trabant with a small Volkswagen Polo engine.

Some really cool cars. One of them strongly resembled the Rambler.

The last time I was in Moscow, Russia...the American cars were really taking over.  And it was expensive to get them there( from what I was told..)

I was in St. Petersburg, Russia last month (even saw Putin's St. Petersburg palace!) where the cars are a real mixture of MB, BMW, Japanese, and I suppose Chinese. Trucks are a combination of  Western European and Eastern European. Surprisingly the traffic was very "calm", law-abiding, and considerate, not at all what I had expected. Actually better than our DC Metro traffic.

Ha Ha! That looks more like what we deal with in DC! We spent 19 hours with a tour guide driving all over St. Petersberg over two days. And we were in areas that were very congested. It is said that SPB is the most European-like city in Russia so that may be the reason less stupid driving?.
