Seat pan accents

Recommended Posts

Vinylguy

Thought i would try some flat black fender accents on my COMMANDO.

Trying to decide if I like the look or not? Made some for Martins 1057 back in 2012 and the hood also.

It is nice to have a Horse to experiment with:D Going to be a fun winter for a change.

Give me your opinion one way or the other. You will not hurt my feelings in any way. Just looking for opinions or even ideas.

I like it. Maybe add a thin white stripe to accent it on either or both sides(or surround it) so its not just a big black line on top of your fender? Definitely breaks up the sea of red. Could also add (cut out) some lettering to the black and let the red peek through. Just some ideas.....

:text-yeahthat: ...or, some play on the (black&white) checkered flag motif Terry...

that matches a racing strip down the center of the hood.   :auto-checkeredflag::auto-checkeredflag::auto-checkeredflag:

Just thinking of a play on the 500 special here.   :handgestures-thumbsup:

I think it would look good on a black hood with replaced metal fenders. The fenders would have to be from a 78 or 79 model C series to get the hole for the gas tank. I guess you could saw the hole in an old model fender, don't have a 78 or 79 to compare with the older C-series fenders.

Thanks guys. I will work on the template and try making a digital wrap decal so I can get more creative plus an easier install.

I need to adjust the templates a bit so they line up with the front bottom of the fender better. Will post a picture from the back

soon. I like the  white outline idea and maybe try a carbon fiber fill. Having some fun with this but I better get back to work now. much to do after the show.

As you can see in this image the outside line needs adjusted in about a 16th at the rear to better align with the fender and just a tiny bit on the inside as it drops over the back.

Is this the same seat pan used throughout the 70's?

I've always liked pin striping, but not a fan of the wide band.   When I repaint a rear fender, I usually leave the WH name off because it just clutters the back, and detracts from the tail lights.    I guess it comes from my memories of 60s street rods with mono-chrome paint and pin stripes.

I like the carbon fiber fill idea compared to the black. Carbon fiber just looks so cool. Lines in the wheelamatic decal look cool also.

I would love to see an adaptation of the hood side decal from your Patriotic set to wrap the seat pan!     :handgestures-thumbupright:

I like the idea. But I agree with the whiteout line. I would personally put a white pinstripe about a 1/8 of a inch inside the black around the whole shape of black.

I like it Dick. Is the 520 seat pan pretty much the same as my commando?

I do not have a 520 around to work up a template

Don't have a commando or a 520, but I am parting a 418 and have a 1267 seat pan. I will compare the two pans tomarow and post the results.

I did a little comparison of the seat/fender pans. The one from the 1267 is narrower than the 418 by a couple of inches. The 418 is 31" wide at the front and all measurements were the same as my 312-8. These photos will give you the sizes of the elevated areas.
