Mikey the Monkey 697 #1 Posted June 4, 2017 Hay experts, what's the little button thing on the bottom of the bowl of a carter model n carb?
rmaynard 14,896 #2 Posted June 4, 2017 The little spring-loaded button is a drain. It was used to remove old gas from the bowl.
Mikey the Monkey 697 #3 Posted June 4, 2017 Well thank you sir. I just started my first Wheel Horse resto on a 701. Is there supposed to be a spring in there? Did not find one when I took it apart
rmaynard 14,896 #4 Posted June 4, 2017 The older Carter N's had a flat metal spring, button, and a rubber washer. This is the spring. Since the drain can be a problem with leakage, I just replace the bowl with a solid one.
Mikey the Monkey 697 #5 Posted June 4, 2017 OK. My flat spring is rusted and broken. Where would a good place to find a solid bowl be other than a parts machine I don't have?
rmaynard 14,896 #6 Posted June 4, 2017 (edited) eBay, Amazon, and lots of other places online. The bowl is the same as the larger model carbs as well. Search for "Kohler 235448-S or Stens 055-533". A good clean used one is just as good as a new one. If you have trouble finding one, I should have a couple of decent used ones in my shop.
