Hey that doesn't look too bad! The nice thing about briggs engines is that most of the parts are still rather plentiful so you shouldn't have trouble getting what you need. I have an S18 Speedex with a Kohler engine and I really enjoy it!

Thank you for all the great replies. At the moment she is getting a bath in PB blaster, in preparation for a good going through one thing at a time.

The hood needs the most attention so it will be first, other than that, all that is missing is the pull start tin, everything else is in surprisingly good condition.

Some things will have to be painted, like the hood & wheels just to save them, but I plan on just "washing her clothes" to preserve her natural beauty.

For now, it's still sinking in that this one came home & I now have "horses" from both sides of the "Pond". :D

Have been very blessed lately & will be bringing home another :wh: on my bucket list tomorrow, until then, a couple more pics of the Speedex...

I'm afraid some of the moss will not survive the grinding & welding where it needs to be repaired, otherwise I would leave it. ;)

I gotta say that I'm a sucker for a heavy moss finish myself, but if it's gotta go.... OK.  A mossy finish is not easy to recreate though.:D Great tractor you have, enjoy it.:handgestures-thumbupright:

Okay guys, in an attempt to go "green" in my restoration process, I have decided to to disturb as little moss possible & it shall remain in it's natural "habitat".

This should help you guys sleep better tonight also...

I recently finished restoring my Speedex S-14 and took it to the mini WheelHorse  show in Danbury, CT last week. I learned that several of the Speedex engineers came from Wheel Horse. I made a video which can be seen at  https://youtu.be/d6qdxDnTCr0   .

I did not get the original engine with mine and would very much like to know the Model,  Type and Code numbers off your engine.

I also notice that our seats are different.

I have a hood retainer on top the engine that I do not see on yours  and do not have a lever sticking out the top of the hood which turns and latches the hood.

First of all, let me say WOW, you did a great job restoring her !

Second, I'll try to answer your questions...

As far as engine numbers go, I would like to know that too, the flywheel shroud was gone when I got it back, & can't find any anywhere else...

Judging by the number of head bolts I think it's an 8 HP Briggs...

The only numbers are on the frame under the drive pulley, they are  AM111, these seem to be a closely guarded secret & "people" want me to send them money to decode them, (not going to happen).

By looking at other tractors & video's, (yours is great by the way) I'm guessing mine is a 1965 or earlier.

As far as the hood latch goes, this one probably had the lever latch, only an L shaped bracket on the motor with a bolt sticking up through it remain, (which has split the metal).

Finally, yes, the seats are different, another clue leading me to believe mine is older.

Lastly, :text-welcomeconfetti:to :rs:

Here are some pics...

Definitely a Briggs looking at that recoil shaft so the rest shouldn't be too hard to find.

Nice pickup on those tires.... would have been a sin to pass on those!

:WRS: @Ed Stoller, nice tractor:handgestures-thumbupright:
