Rear brake rubbing

Recommended Posts

dlaw90

I rolled my 1999 314-8 out today to grease the zerks. While i was rolling it, i heard the sound of metal on metal rubbing. It looks like the sound is coming from the brake drum.

I checked the brakes according to manual and the brake adjustment needed to be tightened. I tightened it, but the rubbing noise is still there. Is there anything else I should check?

Transaxle fluid is full and looks clean.

This is my first tractor so no answer is too obvious

You may want to jack it up and remove the left rear wheel to inspect the brake band. If the lining on the band is bad you can buy a replacement band lining from @rmaynard, top quality and reasonably priced.

Thanks Bob.

I'm also interested in your lug nut kit. Do the new bolts simply thread into the hubs from the backside? Are there any downsides to converting to lug nuts (less strength, interference with some wheel weights, etc)?

Have not had any reports of a "downside"" Yes, they just thread in from the back. Some hubs require the removal of the square-head set screw and jam nut until the one bolt that conflicts is installed.
