zeke37 24 #1 Posted May 17, 2017 Hey looking at a 416-8 sees to be in pretty good shape. 42" deck, ONAN 16hp that "smokes a little". Says it runs and cuts great. $300. Couple question, is this smoking a sign of a doomed engine? and will this 42" deck be compatible with my current C-160 which has a blown out deck? farmer 1,075 #3 Posted May 17, 2017 In my opinion for $300, it would be worth snapping up, if the deck is sound there's your money. The tractor looks ok, might last and you could bang a Kohler on there if the engine fails. Of course it also depends on how far you have to travel to collect? EricF 589 #10 Posted May 17, 2017 Don't count the engine out completely even if there is some smoke. Clean the breather assembly (steel wool and reed valve) when you get it home. Once it's dirty enough to start pulling oil in and causing blow-by, it will keep doing it -- and keep smoking because of it. If you're very lucky, the fix might be that simple.
