Wheel 416-8

Hey looking at a 416-8 sees to be in pretty good shape. 42" deck, ONAN 16hp that "smokes a little". Says it runs and cuts great. $300.

Couple question, is this smoking a sign of a doomed engine? and will this 42" deck be compatible with my current C-160 which has a blown out deck? Here's a picture.591bbc93aaee5_00404_i99LaXj45Q6_600x4502.jpg.451eb6695c596eb5e78a4843cefa0802.jpg

$300 sdoulds like a good price.  The 42" deck will make a direct fit to the C-160...nod mods at all.

In my opinion for $300, it would be worth snapping up, if the deck is sound there's your money. The tractor looks ok, might last and you could bang a Kohler on there if the engine fails.

Of course it also depends on how far you have to travel to collect?

I would snap that up. To sweeten the deal that's a 48" deck, not a 42". :)

$300! I would go for it, fast. 48" deck to go with the deal too!  :handgestures-thumbupright:

Great thanks, after some more questioning the owner says it smokes pretty much all the time. I would have to travel an hour to pick up. Still worth it?        *just read forum on Onans smoking so pretty much answered my own question

If the deck is good then it alone is worth it.

From the picture it looks to be in very good shape. Yes, I would go for it and keep my eyes open for a good K, Magnum or Command motor. :)

For that price you can't go wrong!! If you want it, grab it quick-I've missed out on a couple good deals because I hesitated.

Don't count the engine out completely even if there is some smoke. Clean the breather assembly (steel wool and reed valve) when you get it home. Once it's dirty enough to start pulling oil in and causing blow-by, it will keep doing it -- and keep smoking because of it. If you're very lucky, the fix might be that simple. If not, for $300, it's worth repair or engine replacement!

Of course you can always offer $200 and maybe get an even better deal!

a bad seal on the dip stick would cause it to smoke, with only  382 hours on it unless he ran it with out an air cleaner in a real dirty conditions
