I was checking one of my engines just by turning the flywheel and no spark, someone told me i needed a battery for fire..Is this correct? TT-(Moderator) 1,127 #2 Posted January 27, 2009 If the Kohler has an externally-mounted automotive-style 12 volt ignition coil, then it must have a battery. Most Tecumseh engines (some Kohlers too) have a magneto to produce spark - which do not require a battery.
