New Easter Horse

Recommended Posts

Blasterdad

I've been so busy at my new job this is the first time in two weeks I've been able to sit down at the computer.

Picked up a free MTD mower on Friday, Easter weekend. A friends neighbor said it ran great, (better than his new one) but wouldn't go into forward.

I figured it would be a good freebie to flip for some :wh: money so I picked it up after work.

Easter Sunday I called a CL ad & flipped it for a :wh: !!!

Met a great 18 year old young man who just started his first job & has been fixing tractors with his Grandfather to earn extra money.

The :wh: was part of a package deal he got with a Cub Cadet, (Grandpa said he had it running 15 mins. after unloading it! Will post a pic)

Anyway, it was listed as a '73 Raider 12 that needed a new rod, but is has been repainted & there are no ID plates or serial numbers.

Opinions wanted as to what it actually is...

Charger 12? All of the Raiders were 4 or 8 speeds, I believe.

Went looking through the manuals section, was '72 the last year for the Charger...? :dunno:

Trying to figure out what year/model this horse is, ID plates have been removed from chassis & engine & repainted.... :scratchead:

The ad said '73 Charger...

with the twist lock throttle, the side mount motion control lever, and no front quick attach bracket. I would say that your charger is pre 70. somewhere around 70 they went to the lever throttle and choke and in 72 they went to the front quick attach bracket. also 73 no names had the center shift motion control lever, for at least part of the year. hope this helps you narrow it down some.

Thank you, that narrows it down a lot! A DPO had taken the mid attachment bracket off & used it to cobble up a rear mount for the plow that was on it, (non :wh:) even though there was a :wh: plow bracket in the parts box.

My expertise (which is limited, lol) is with the C series. Anything older I am learning from the GREAT people on :rs:. Thanks again !!!

Along with the other good info already mentioned, in 1970 the hood was changed. Compare pics of a 69 and a 70. That makes yours a 68 or 69. I'm not sure if there's any way to verify which year. :)

Late in 68 they went to that style starter.  When did they go to the plastic dash and lower cover? I have a late 68 Raider and it still has a steel dash.
