Suggestions for 42" Deck

Recommended Posts

Zeke98

Hi All,

I'm new to the wheel horse forum. I inherited my Grandfather's 416-H.  The deck is showing some holes from rust. Would you suggest I have the deck welded or try to replace the deck with one in better shape? You can see some metal plates in the attached photos. These were a quick fix.  It's time for a real one!

I've also included the model number of the deck. I'd appreciate any suggestions about what other model numbers would be compatible with my tractor.

Thanks.

Here is a list of 42" decks produced over the years. At some point the blades went to a 3/4" center hole like you have now. Before that they had a 5/8" x 3/4" double-D hole and those blades are no longer available. Will figure out when the change was made.

5-1001 replaces RL-426, 5-1421, 5-1422, 5-1423, 5-1000

5-1001 replaced by 5-1010, 5-1011, 5-1012, 65-42MS01, 65-42MS02, 75-42MS01 (Blades up to this point had a 5/8" x 3/4" double-D center hole)

(The following decks used blades with a 3/4" center hole) 75-42MS02, 85-42MS01, 95-42MS00, 95-42MS01, 05-42MS01, 05-42MS02, 05-42MS03, 05-42MS04, 05-42MS05, 15-42SC01, 15-42SC02, 15-42SC03/78345

New is also still an option

Thanks for the information. The above decks will fit my tractor?

New is pricey, but is still an option. Are these made by Toro or are they a knock-off?

It looks like Aftermarket still can supply the double d blades

That is good to see.

Sadly they don't include the 100200 number for the set of three 6693 blades for the 42" side discharge.

They do not appear to carry any of the others

32" gear driven 3718/3719 replaced by 7908/7909 replaced by 7760/7761 replaced by 8777 2-blade set

36" gear driven 4116/4117 replaced by 8014 2-blade set

36" decks - 1 center blade 100776 and left and right 100777 replaced by 101335 3-blade set

42" rear discharge 105837 replaced by 106586 3-blade set

48" side discharge 4380 replaced by 6758 replaced by 100202 3-blade set

There are others for the above that are less popular and did not check them.

Someone posted a link to a site that advertised they had the 8014 set.

Just google wheel horse 6693 and all kinds of choices pop up. Plenty of competition and you can shop for price. One example

 https://www.glenssurplus.com/proddetail.php?prod=Rot-1108-SNG

A close up of the tag shows 'made in USA'

I am too lazy to open  all the links and hunt for the best deal considering price + shipping costs, but you get the idea.

Now, for all you tightwads out there.   Has anyone ever worn out a set of 48" blades and cut them down to make a set of 42" blades? Works for me!

I made a trip last fall because he had a couple of decks that have solid pans. I bought them for 125.00 and one of them was heavily re-inforced and had a complicated set of pulleys to power it .I think that the decks from the sixties actually had better steel in them because they don't seem to rust as easily as the newer ones.I like the old style double D steel spindles much better because they can be removed from the deck with ease compared to the more modern aluminum spindles.

. The deck seller threw in a 1075 hydro drive tractor as part of the deal -- a roller without an engine. I cleaned it up a bit and replaced the hydro seals and now it is powered by a Predator $99.00 engine . I just blew a wheel hub on my hard working raider 10 and the replacement will come from the 1075. I will then buy some cheap golf cart hubs to take its place and put some golf cart wheel assemblies I have laying around for a very inexpensive yard tractor that I might convert to the ultimate yard sprayer.

Even when you buy a parts tractor, these Wheel Horses somehow keep coming back to life. I got the 1075 just to have a couple of spare tires, so you never know where this hobby will lead

They need to be cleaned regularly to

prevent rotting. Looks like yours is well past it's prime. New is always an option$$$$$

Used decks come up regularly. I've bought and sold like new decks for $200-400 in NJ. I've even purchased entire tractors just for the attachments. Which at times was much less exspemsive than buying the attatxhememt outright. And w a little patience I made my money back on the sale of the tractor.

In short. Be patient. A deck will find YOU!

Thanks for the suggestions.

I opted for the welding option. We'll see how it turns out.

Thanks again.

I have a 1996 520H Wheel Horse for sale.  The tractor has just over 800 hours on it.  It comes with a 48 inch deck.  The deck is a 1995 and has over 1,500 hours on it, as it came brand new with my 312-8 that I sold several years ago.  This 520-H has the swept front axle so it can handle a 60 inch deck.  I just replaced the battery and the deck belt this summer.  The engine is a 20HP Onan and it starts right up but requires the full choke.  The transmission is an Eaton 1100-062, hydrostatic.  The deck is in rough shape but the spindles appear to be in good working order.  The right rear tire has some cracking.  The original operator's manual for the 520H is included, as is the original operating and maintenance instructions for the deck, plus the installation instructions for the deck.  Also included is a new PTO belt and several miscellaneous deck wheels and rollers.  Additional pictures available upon request.  Asking $500.
