Sparky-(Admin) 19,280 #1 Posted April 23, 2017 This one came to me last year and after a couple carb cleanings, a carb rebuild, all new fuel lines and filters and three different fuel pumps it still ran crummy....so I parked it all winter in disgust. But when I saw Stevasaurus's video @stevasaurus of a couple of his short frames running it motivated me to try again. First thing I did was reset the points after giving them a light sanding.....AND THE DAMN THING RAN GREAT!!! I can't believe I didn't mess with the points last year 🙄 ! This new development re-newed my interest and this weekend I gave the rims some attention. I love the patina so I won't be messing with the sheet metal. Pics of course.....first pic is when it came home. Mike.....
Amcwheel85 2,058 #2 Posted April 23, 2017 Awesome! How did you get the wheels looking so good?

It took quite a bit of wire wheeling to get all the flaky paint off.....one good coat of primer and two coats of gloss Almond (all rattle cans of course). Looking good and running good too.

rjg854 10,642 #7 Posted April 23, 2017 I have 2 Commando 8's and both are great tractors, I wouldn't trade either one for love or money. Have fun with it.

Ed Kennell 35,141 #11 Posted April 24, 2017 When I redid mine, the hood was the last part to paint and it was just too purdy to touch, so I ended up with a two tone. Those creamy wheels really dresses em up.
Retired Wrencher 4,829 #12 Posted April 24, 2017 (edited) Mike Well done You gave the old girl a second life. It seems the little things trip us up. Was that repainted some time back? It looks real clean. Enjoy. Edited April 24, 2017 by Retierd Wrencher
Docwheelhorse 2,559 #13 Posted April 24, 2017 My first Wheel Horse was a Commando 8... shes in the garage under a blanket with Cecil's signature across the hood... That little tractor made me more money and did more work than any of my others (I'd like to think anyways... ) My last tractor will probably be a Commando too..... I can testify that the wheels did come out perfect and it sure does run real good. Tony
stevasaurus 22,197 #14 Posted April 24, 2017 I don't think anybody ever told me that I was an inspiration. Glad you gave it another shot. I love those wheels...that's next on my list.
farmer 1,075 #15 Posted April 24, 2017 (edited) Of the tractors I have the commando 8 sounds the best, especially starting it. I stripped mine down for paint, it's now half primed. Seeing yours makes me wonder if I should have left it original. Yours looks the biz. Edited April 24, 2017 by farmer

My bodywork and paint skills are lousy, so it was an easy decision to leave the patina alone. Mike....
