snowhound 103 #1 Posted April 16, 2017 I'm going to look at a C172 twin hydro is there anything I should be looking out for? I don't know what year it is but will find out when I look at it if the tag is still there. Ed
pfrederi 17,128 #2 Posted April 16, 2017 Depending on year C175 may have a series 1 or Series 2 KT 17. The series 1 has a weak lubrication system and many of them threw rods. Series 2 are excellent engines. Series 1 can be OK If you keep them topped up with oil (maybe a bit overfull) and avoid running on steep grades 24300 and higher spec numbers are Series 2 As with any hydro get it warmed up put it against an immovable object and see if she will spin her rear wheels
