K341SA shutting off after running for a while

Recommended Posts

On my SK-486 after running it for a while, maybe approx 1 hr or so. It will shut off and engine will not turn over like it has no spark. By the time I look it over trying to trace it down, cooling enough, it starts back up.

So would it be correct to assume its the coil doing this???

Sounds more like a poor connection somewhere.

A dysfunctional coil usually doesn't wait an hour or so before giving up.

I had a Honda dirt bike once and it would quit after warming up and lost spark so I replaced the coil and that corrected the problem :banana-rock:

:twocents-02cents:   I think you have a bad fuel cap vent, once you use a portion of the fuel the tank is under a vacuum that the fuel pump can't overcome. Next time you use it try backing off on the fuel cap a bit (be sure the tank isn't too full). If it keeps running buy a new cap;  worked for me.

I had a coil breaking down that did the same thing.

If it isn't the gas cap I would change the coil!

Ohm your primary and secondary of the coil first before buying one.

If it isn't the fuel cap and is heat related it may be the coil, or not. One other heat related ignition component would be the condenser, and you can operate the engine for short periods with it removed from the system. When the engine quits remove the condenser wire from the coil "-" terminal and see if will fire.

Condenser should be attached to the - side of the coil.

Sounds like a plan I will check these things when it shuts off. Although I used it last 2 days rolling and mowing the 2 acre yard and it ran the whole time. (after sitting all winter).

Thanks everyone!
