I want to replace the starter brushes on my 1991 312-8. Do I have to remove the oil dip stick tube to remove the starter ?

Is it a magnum or a K series.  magnum book doesn't mention that as being needed ...but warns the end caps need to be taped or held in place when you remove the through bolts

It's a magnum. I haven't tried to remove it yet but it looks like the dipstick tube will have to be removed. I thought I had seen an earlier post on here about this but I tried searching and can't find anything.    :confusion-confused:

Sorry my only Magnum single is up in the shed surrounded by snow so i can't look at it..

Just found an old picture of the motor back when I bought it.  Looks like the filler has to go
