I like the 953's and the 1054's,even though I got rid of most of the ones I had.Love the 60's,old school hot-rod 3 spoke steering wheel.I had that same wheel on my 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint a hundred years ago.Have fun with your new toy.

953 and/or a 1054 would be on my list of tractors to own.  Those two, and of course, a Senior. :)

Steering isn't working, wires are broken, tires are probably shot, hydraulics leak, and it's rusty

NICE!! A classic horse then! :handgestures-thumbupright:

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a couple of 953s in my sights.  Well, not physically in my sights currently, but I know where two are and have been considering on how to acquire them.

I'll leave that up to the owner to say where, if he places an ad here.  But, he knows I'm interested, so I'm thinking he will wait on me first before he does or gives me first dibs, but I understand if he doesn't wait on me.

Finally started doing some work on it. I pulled the steering shaft so I could extract the broken bolts. I got lucky and they came out easy. I'll get some new bolts tomorrow, grease it up, and put it back in. And that's probably about all I'll have time for right now. I needed to get the steering fixed so I can get it out of the driveway and work on the other mowers that I need to get fixed and sold.

One question, is the electrical system a negative ground 12 volt system? I know I probably won't be able to get into trying to start it for awhile but I'd like to know for when I do.

You have the Ross steering gear on your 953!   Parts are sold on Ebay for restoring the Ross steering gear.  This was used in the early 953's.  Ross sold them to Wheel Horse , John Deere and other garden tractor manufacturers in 1962 and 1963 and demand was so high for the 953  -Wheel Horse developed the fan gear to replace the Ross gear in  the 953 production.
