520h. Rip off

Recommended Posts

96WS6TA

Got a nice low mileage 97 520h from Craigslist. Guy said it had a lil miss. Shoot at idle a bit then throttle up and it ran fine so I bought it.  Got it home and tore into it a little to adjust the valves and saw they were full of gas and junk! So figured I'll pull the motor and saw the other piston wasn't turning with the crank!!!! Well live and learn I guess

Good advice - and don't forget to change the pulley for using it in your hydro....like Digger said: think positive...:(

if you already have a extra 16 hp onan, stick it in and run it for now, and then when you find another motor swap it back to a 20, I'm actually looking to put a 16 in a 520 chassis to use as a mower tractor. then I get the swept front axle and the as I feel slightly better eaton 1100  520 trans. not sure it's any better then any other eaton 1100, but from what I've seen personally my 520-H pushes snow better then some of the 416-H I've used . You also get save a LITTLE amount of fuel over the 20 hp motor. So yea I have no problem with a 516-H. Although I have enough 520 to play with that I really won't miss the extra 4 hp.  :ROTF:

Should be 100% plug in play if it's a :wh: 16 hp Onan, Jeff.

Sorry you got a burnt with the 520 lemon @96WS6TA,  let's make some  510 lemonade.      Has anyone ever made a one  lunger out of one of these half dead P220s?

What would be involved?  Remove the  rod, piston, and valves on the dead cylinder.    Block off the intake and exhaust.   Balance?    Fuel adjustment?

leave the old piston in, help stop anything from getting to the crankcase. pull the valves and put a plate over the intake, don't know how it would work but, I've seen tractors running on one cylinder and the owner never new it lost a cylinder till I pointed it out. and they didn't run half bad. maybe in my spare time lol :ROTF: I could take one of my blown motors that I picked up for parts and try it:hide:

I had a similar situation. Bought 416 with onan not running right. Ended up parting and the guy that was buying the motor wanted to pull the head and we found there was no piston on one side. I ended up gvingi him the motor

Now wait just a cotton picken minute here! I have not seen a photo shoot of the tractor yet! Sides Front Rear all around. How much did you pay for it? How many Hours on the tractor? I wouldn't be cobbling up a perfectly good tractor with a Kohler. I love my Kohler's too don't get me wrong but why take the easy way out doesn't anyone do anything right anymore? Look inside a Kohler plastic oil pump gears stamped Aluminum Onan Cast Iron Oil Pump Steel Gears. You get what you pay for. ~Duke

Go for it Eric.   Give me a call when you're ready to fire it up.  Might be the baddest 10HP engine around.    And the heaviest.

I bought one that ran...... but poorly.

I sold parts off the Onan and made my money back.

So I got a tractor without motor for free!  And a deck!

what is the tractor 2 nd from the back against the wall, now that I look at it closer I would guess a 312-A or a 314-A, thought at first it was a lawn tractor vertical shaft tractor, the console didn't look right from the angle in the photo

the bad 520 is next to grill  the 416 will be the donor and that's an old 312 against the wall and another 312 with the plow
