They are good.  When the end is almost pointed instead of flat then they are shot.

I don't know if it's possible because of warpage but you might be able to have the edges hard surfaced welded . This could prolong the life of the tines (I herd they're expensive) If you're worried about wear . 

 

 Maybe @TIGman or @Sarge could chime in with their welding experience ?

For the cost of hard surface rod , I'd just cut off a section of the ends and weld on some tougher steel . From what I've seen the tines are just made from regular 60XXpsi variety...going to one of the spring steels would help.
