classicdmax 190 #1 Posted February 26, 2017 (edited) Can I just take old drive belt to my local ma pop auto parts store and match length? I'm thinking of trying to go a size shorter if it's not too much shorter than what I removed for there seemed tone some slop when running. Also waiting on delivery of new belt tensioning spring which may help with that.... Edited February 27, 2017 by classicdmax
briankd 816 #2 Posted February 27, 2017 I was told to always use an wheel horse belt because they are fitted to the tractors if too short gear drive will grind gears when shifting and will slip under load that's my experience with different belts. don't know about hydro tractors

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,488 #4 Posted February 27, 2017 What is your tractor's model number? Some drive belts were revised after a period of time to improve performance. Garry
classicdmax 190 #5 Posted February 27, 2017 Good idea, but how do I know what I just removed was the correct size? whwre can I find what would be correct for my tractor. Ps I know I ask these questions and the answers are probably around here somewhere close.... 953 nut 51,536 #6 Posted February 27, 2017 I was presuming it functioning properly at one time with this belt, I think you will find a belt chart in the "Manuals" section on here.
classicdmax 190 #7 Posted February 27, 2017 I was functioning fine, although I thought it seemed to have some play/slot whilst running. This being my first horse this could be the norm as I have nothing to compare to
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,488 #8 Posted February 27, 2017 The original belt number and size has been added to this page Garry

daveoman1966 3,586 #10 Posted February 27, 2017 The OEM belt is # 7478 for about $23 on-line sources. It is 84" x 0.625" (5/8).

TDF5G 2,051 #12 Posted February 27, 2017 If you're not certain what belt is on the tractor or if it's the correct one, I would buy the correct Wheel Horse Toro belt. It should work well on your tractor and will last a long time.
