Thickness of metal for plow?

Recommended Posts

Duramax7man7

Wanted to know how thick the steel is for the plow blade itself is? 12 gauge or thicker? I may have the opportunity to get some steel sheets to build one.

Thanks. AC.

12g to 14g sounds about right.

Could be 10 ga CRS. I'll take a look.

Wow! 16 ga CRS.

If I were to make one I would use 12 ha 316 SS.

Years ago made 16 ga 316 SS mower decks. Painted WH red. Dealer said, "Wow! Can't get a magnet to stick!"

Yeah I like the idea of a slightly more durable plow...

I got one off a gravely walk behind. Believe it's 1/4" rolled steel. Was so tall I had to cut at least 1/3 off top. Welded WH mount to it and never looked back. I doubt  it'll ever bend. Wish I could say same for WH OE plows.

Nada. They're at vacation home so i won't be able to get any photos. At quick glance you'd think it was factory.

Recall it being rather easy. Think I made new tabs to weld on new plow. Haven't touched it since I bought loader.

I do do know I cut enough off top of gravely plow to make a mid mount grader w remaining.

The mid mount grader blade is 1/2" thick. Works great.

Thinking of making a front mount.
