Kohler 1500 Watt portable eletric generator

Recommended Posts

Lane Ranger

I took a chance and bought a 1500 Watt portable Kohler generator powered by a K91 T 4 HP motor the other day.   Changed the spark plug, points and put a new carb on it and she started right up.   Produces electricty fine.  Oil was real clean in it and it has a small oil leak around the shaft connecting to the alternator/generaotr portion (probably oil seal).  I will paint it up and change the top light (I bought an original replacement Chicago #491 auto lamp) that lights when it is generating.  Has both  110 and 220 plugs!   This was owned by the Uninversity of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana.

Jim  : I like that it is portable/mobile on a steel handcart and I can maybe use it at shows!

Sure... paint it red and throw some horse stickers on it.... Will have a few guys scratching :scratchead: their head!

Might be handy for jump starting tractors with a 12v power supply?!?!!

I think I am going to paint it the Kohler Blue  which  some tell me that Duplicolor Spruce Metallic cc392 (A Chrysler color)  is close to the original.

Craig:   You don't happen to have an operating manual for that generator do you?  I could use a copy.

I posted a pic of mine on a Kohler motor blog Kohler has on Facbook and they contacted me as I said I could use a manual.  I have not heard back from them.  These were produced in the 1960's from whjat I coudl determine.

Saw this Kohler powered generator on display up at the Split rock light house just north of Duluth Mn.    I thought they said maybe late 1940's vintage...IMG_1065.JPG

Very kool Terry.   My friend Rodney Burger found another one while in Florida this month.

I will post some photos of it.   It is an early small one too.

953 nut

I picked one like yours up a few years ago at a swap meet, K-90 with great tins, recoil starter Updraft oil filled air cleaner (not pictured) and the shower head muffler; paid $ 50.00, hope I didn't overpay!  :ychain:

Very kool find  Richard!

Looks real complete .   I  see a showerhead muffler too on that one!

Did you get a Operating Manual with it?   I am looking to get a copy of one.

No, if I did it would be yours for sure. I just picked it up for the K-90; my '57 RJ-35 has a frozen motor and rusted out tins.
